Please be an April fools joke?
I was expecting this sooner or later though. _________________

I said the same thing.
This is a bit tragic, for I've been playing Rock Band and following DLC releases since RB1. I now need to find something new to do with my life. Oh well, I will miss the good old days of plastic instruments. _________________

This announcement makes me deeply sad. I mean, obviously, logically, the DLC train was going to have to stop sometime. And they'd been alluding to such matters as the content release rate had slowly been petering out. I guess I was just clinging to the thin possibility that the rate of issued songs would just be drastically reduced, not cut to zero.
Still, that was one hell of a run. Rock Band (and Guitar Hero) more or less singlehandedly dragged me back into the world of modern music. And some craaaazy percentage of my network of real-world friends are folks I've met through rhythm gaming in one form or another, to say nothing of the myriad "internet friends" I've met through sites like these. It's let me fly across the country, and repeatedly perform in front of teeming crowds, and crash on horizontal surfaces in at least a couple different states! So no regrets or anything, not in the slightest. I raise my glass to you, improbably robust DLC run!

Calling it. |
American Pie? |
I was going to go with "Closing Time", but I'd happily concede that "American Pie" would be an assuredly more epic choice. ("The day the music died" and all that.) _________________

Oh, yeah, I forgot.
Then I guess American Pie. We need a version without censorship. _________________

American Pie jumped into my head because there are so many lyrics that fit well, including this one:
"But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step" _________________

Damn shame. It's sad to see it go, but at least it did so on a high note, with one of the best plastic instrument games ever released.
I intend to buy the final song, regardless of what it is.
Rock on forever, Rock Band. _________________

First I lost Guitar Hero and now losing Rock Band. Very sad days, but at least they are ending it on their own terms, like a band should. Hopefully we'll see them come back down the road, like I am still hoping for with Guitar Hero, but we got tons of music to play and it is thanks to it being a fun game. |

Yeah, this a a 5.5 year customer relationship with HMX coming to an end I guess.
I don't really need new DLC coming out every week to find ways to challenge myself at the game, but it is still too bad how many great songs I will never get to play in the game. _________________

Honestly, this is incredibly sad. Even though I felt myself playing RB less and less over the past couple years, these series and this genre defined my young adult life. This was the go-to game for get-togethers with friends, and time spent gaming alone for years. As I sit here, watching the series fade away, I wonder what I could have done - what we could have done - differently. Is this the inevitable result, or was there a last ditch movement that could have saved it? Such thoughts do little for the franchise we love, though. As the ship creaks and sinks, the best way to handle the loss is to just keep playing. _________________

I guess I need to go out and pick up another guitar. I have 3 working ones but damn I need another just in case the spare of the spare stops working.
Sad day though. At least RBN is still there and this really makes me have to start going though that since I have really really ignored 99% of it. To bad though to see it end. I dont think its going to change things drastically around here but I guess we all knew it was coming. I've put a lot of money into this genre and regret nothing!!!
Thanks for the memories HMX <3 _________________

I don't think I will be able to play video games anymore after this.
The only positive I can get from this is that the final week is the first week of April and not the last. My birthday is on the last day of the month and that would make it a bit more of a depressing day. _________________

It's definitely sad to see official HMX DLC end, and REALLY sad to see RBN ending on PS3 as well -- though that may be the author in me talking. At least 360 users can look forward to RBN DLC for the foreseeable future, and any fans of 6-string guitar can look forward to Rocksmith DLC and Bandfuse whenever that comes out. RB DLC may be over, but rhythm gaming still has a bright future. _________________
