|
|
This thread is only to be used for requesting and/or posting Rock Band banners.
Wiki stuffs:
-Wiki for Full Game accomplishments, bands A-L, and the THoF.
-Wiki for bands M-Z and random others.
Notes worth noting:
-All Rock Band banner requests go in this thread.
-KEEP IMPOSSIBLE DISCUSSION OUT OF HERE.
-The directory is at the bottom of this post.
-Host these yourself or I will cut out your entrails and eat them in front of you.
-Do not ask for banners for songs that have not been released.
-If this is your first visit to the thread, read this entire post or suffer the consequences.
-The Twinkles Hall of Fame (THoF) can still be found in inv4der's post.
-Want to make banners using GIMP? Go here. Using Photoshop? Too bad.
ManOfMrE (ScoreHero Staff) wrote: | OK, all finished, here's the deal. This thread is about the discussion of banners. All the rules to adhere by are posted and handled by [bannermakers]. There is absolutely, ABSOLUTELY NO reason for flaming to take place in this thread (nor anywhere on ScoreHero). If you can't stay on topic in this thread or if you have nothing to add to this thread, then do not post in it.
I do not want to see anymore posts solely dedicated to how many pages this thread has already. Nor do I want to see any members insulting or flaming any other members for any reason. If you have a problem with something someone has posted here, or anywhere, there is a report button. Click it, report it, and do nothing else.
Play nice, I don't want to have to visit this thread again. |
ManfredvonKarma (smart guy, pretty cool too) wrote: | I'm going to bring this up in here, because this is a likely place to get the attention of the people it affects:
If you put three banners right next to each other in your sig, it will be 900 pixels wide. ScoreHero's sig limitations are 800 pixels width-wise.
The rule on height is that a sig can be no more than 170 pixels high. So, any more than 4 banners will put you over the limit (obviously this is less if you have other things in your sig).
I've seen a few people in violation, and I thought this would be a nicer way of resolving the issue than reporting everyone. |
killzonedout (good vocalist, also a pretty smart guy), explaining both my own request and Kawigi's, wrote: | You can save the banners to your own PB (Photobucket) account, or anything like that. |

NOTE: By joining #bannerhero you have acknowledged that you have read the channel's RULES, found here.
The channel #bannerhero has now been registered on irc.gamesurge.net.
For those unfamiliar with IRC, here's how you can join, using mIRC:
1. Download and install mIRC from www.mirc.com
2. Create an account on www.gamesurge.net (optional)
3. Verify your email and take note of your password (optional)
4. Run mIRC and type the following commands:
/server irc.gamesurge.net
Wait until you're connected to the server.
/authserv auth username password
(replacing "username" and "password" with your values, optional, if you registered above)
[Fish edit - Only use this step if you are registered at www.gamesurge.net]
You should get an automatic response indicating "-AuthServ- I recognize you."
/join #bannerhero
And that's it.
If you can't install mIRC or want to visit #bannerhero without downloading additional software, visit www.gamesurge.net/chat.
Note: All of this is taken from here, just #bannerhero is anywhere #scorehero shows up.

Why is everyone so hesitant to make requests? The whole purpose of this thread is gather all of the bannermakers to fulfill the requests made by other users. It's not like I'm going to be a stick in the mud and say, "NO REQUESTS EVER" or anything. If you've got a (reasonable) request, post it, and hopefully a bannermaker will get on it, and post the end result. |

Yup, you can use the post you just made to post the banners you make. You can PM the OP and he'll put a link in the OP to your post in the thread. |

#bannerhero rules rundown:
-Ops can freely ban for any subject they feel is inappropriate.
-Please refrain from abusing IdiotServ. Abuse will result in a 30-minute ban. After 3 30-minute bans, you will be banned for a day. Further abuse will result in a permanent ban from the channel.
What we want to see:
-People posting banners they've made and others giving constructive (that's the operative word here) criticism:
"baner suks", "u suk", and all the like will result in an immediate ban, without kick (devoice). Either I or one of the other ops will decide when you can start chatting again. If you break this rule 3 times you are kick/banned from the channel for 24 hours. Further violation of this rule will result in a permanent ban.
-A (minimally) clean discussion:
If you couldn't legally discuss it real life, don't discuss it here.
-An attempt at proper grammar:
We can understand not including apostrophes ('), quotation marks ("), commas (,), and the like in your lines, but please, try nt 2 tak lik dis (that was pretty damn annoying wasn't it?). We appreciate people typing out their complete words. Well known acronyms, such as btw, lol, lmao, etc are acceptable, but nothing out of hand.
What we don't want to see:
-Asking for op:
No, you cannot have op.
-Spamming the channel:
If you link something once, that's okay. If you post it twice, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that it was an accident. Anything more than that is spam to me and will result in a warning shot (kick). Keep spamming and banned.
-The linking of pornography, pr0ns, etc in the chat.
Take it into PMs, or find a new chat altogether (or server, since gamesurge does not allow this either):
Take the "uber kewl bewbs" pic into a PM so we don't have to deal with it. Linking porn in chat will result in a day long channel ban. A second offense will result in a permanent ban.
-Linking shock sites:
Self-explanatory. If you like rickrolling/barackrolling/whatever the trend is when you're reading this, just leave, because if you don't after we catch you linking it, you will be banned.
tl;dr: Read this post.
inv4der has some sage advice, so take it to heart:
"You start a conversation, you can't even finish it
You're talkin' a lot, but you're not saying anything
When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed
Say something once, why say it again?"

I have a simple philosophy: banners should be for accomplishments that you are proud of, not accomplishments that I am proud of. It shouldn't matter what the community thinks something is an accomplishment; if you're proud of it, it's an accomplishment. With that in mind, I will make banners for just about anything. This includes harder things, too, so you hardcore players don't need to hit the back button on your browser.
A brief statement on the quality of the banners: The vast majority of these banners were made with very little knowledge of Photoshop. They don't look half bad with that in mind, but more recent banners do look better. If you see an obviously older banner, and would like it remade, I am fine with fielding that request. I am still learning new tricks, so I still ask that you bear with me.
Now, I have two requests for you:
Please host these yourself, and please don't request anything overly specific.
If you do not host these yourself, you jeopardize the existence of the banner, as the website I upload these to limits bandwidth. Additionally, should I wind up replacing a banner with an updated version, the tinypic url for it can and will get reassigned to something else, and it might be something that you don't want in your signature.
When I speak of overly specific requests, I refer to things such as "5 starred Visions Drums while wearing a tutu and drinking milk." Such novelty accomplishments are fun, but I'm not willing to make banners that only one person can/will use.

Hey guys, this is my banner post. I have basically the same rules as all the other guys, host them yourself, don't request things that are too easy, blah blah blah. PM me if you have a request, want something added, etc. If I don't do it after a few days, don't panic, just send me another message, and then that is when you can start getting mad :P

Bannermaking Guide Using GIMP:
Let's see how poorly this goes....
Today, I'll be making a banner using this image and the tools around it.
Step 1: Crop the image. Using the Crop tool choose the area to use for your future banner. You can use any size image, just make sure that the ratio of the cropped area is 7.50 to 1 (as shown at the bottom of the GIMP program, here) so that it will shrink correctly when we scale the image in the next step. If you want to use a color from the image as the text color, use the Color Picker tool (The "O" (Letter) key, for shortcuts) and select the color from the photo.
Step 2: Scaling the image down. I'm sure you noticed in the last image that the size of the cropped area was 1590 by 212, which is obviously too large. That's why we are going to scale the image down (pic link). In this window, you see the scaling tool used by GIMP. What you want to do is change the image width and height to match this, the standard banner size. If your image was extremely large, odds are GIMP changed the magnification to fit the image in a smaller window, that can be fixed by accessing the Zoom menubar, and changing the view to 100%. As an additional step, I resize the program window to be smaller, so that it doesn't occupy so much space.
Step 3: Adding a Border to the Entire Banner. Begin by going clicking the Alpha to Selection tool, which should create animated, dashed line segments moving around the entire banner. Go to the Border tool, and make sure you have the border set at 1 pixel. After that, Go to Edit and choose Fill With FG/BG Color (any color can be used here, but the "standard" seems to be black, so I'm going to with that).
Your banner should look something like this as of this step:
Step 4: Adding Text. To add text, begin by accessing the Text tool. Create a field on the banner for your text to go, and a window for your text to be put in should automatically appears. In the toolbar, check the box labeled Force Auto-Hinter, the second check box when using the Text tool. Make sure the box labeled Use Selected Font is checked, otherwise, you won't be able to add text to your banner.
After the text of your choice is added, the banner should be similar to this:
The text is, of course, hard to read. That's why we are going to add a black border in the next step.
Step 5: Adding Border to Text. Begin by Duplicating the text layer (which is automatically the layer you are highlighting). Time to bring back the Alpha to Selection Tool. That same dashed, animated line border should appear on the text. Go to the Grow Tool, and set the grow to 1 pixel. This is a very important note if you want an "official" looking banner, text has a 1 pixel border, the entire banner has a 1 pixel border. After adding the border, use the Fill with BG/FG Color Tool again (I must reiterate, I am using black simply because it's "official"... and I like it). Don't freak out when your text seems to disappear behind a wall of whatever color you just filled with. Use the Lower Layer Tool to lower the layer of text that will form the border around the original text.
Congrats, you just made a banner!
Here's how the one I was making turned out:
Well, there you have it, a bannermaking guide using GIMP. If you aspire to make Rock Band banners, you'll need the icons, found here.
Note: The icons are are in one giant (and I do mean giant) .png, so you'll have to crop out each icon individually.
On a last note, you can save your banner again (using "Save as...", not "Save") as a .psd or a .xcf, so that way you can open up the banner later in the same layers.
A review of various color schemes. (Stolen from GuitarHailz's Bannermaking guide for PS)
Tidbit for adding instrument icons: Using the link above to the large icons, use the Crop tool and crop the instrument icon(s) exactly (1 icon should be around 1138 x 1138 or so). Bucket Fill the white space with the color of your choosing. Resize to 34 x 34. Save as another file name (SmallIcon is what I usually use). Drag and drop the small icon into the the banner, and drag over to the spot you want to be in.
If you encounter any problems making a banner using GIMP, PM me and I'll see what I can do to help. _________________
