A new challenger has arrived.
Because I'm lazy, here's what I posted on the Rocksmith Facebook wall about this:
Quote: | Interesting. I'll reserve judgment on this one because I initially thought Rocksmith would be a failure. Obviously that didn't happen. Maybe this will satisfy those who demand tabs :p
However, I'm looking at Mastiff, and they haven't published ANYTHING on PS3/360 yet, and the only memorable game published by them on Wikipedia looks like Gurumin for PSP.
Here's the dev's page according to IGN. Barely any info, and the "About" lists several accolades but doesn't say in accordance with any named projects they did. So I'll go ahead and remain a skeptic for now and stick with Rocksmith, though I'll follow this (as I'm sure many will) with a close eye.

Thoughts?
Addendum: Mastiff also published Major League Eating. Not exactly a confidence inspirer. _________________

Previews seem mixed so far. Destructoid seems fairly positive, while Joystiq seems to have a bit more of a mixed reaction.
Five songs confirmed:
"Yellow" - Coldplay
"Harder to Breathe" - Maroon 5
"Sweet Home Alabama" - Skynyrd (have we not had enough of this song yet?)
"Back from Cali" - Slash
"The Bleeding" - Five Finger Death Punch
Interesting enough, no reported input lag. _________________

Looks interesting, I'll keep an eye on this. It looks like they're offering another take on playing real guitar transcriptions, and competition is good as far as I'm concerned. It might get Harmonix motivated enough in their real instrument endeavors to take it up another notch. If BandFuse has songs that I like, I'll probably end up getting it. If customs become a possibility, I'll definitely get it. |

You know what's more interesting?
Check out the tuning for The Bleeding.
EDIT: Destructoid confirms Judas Priest and "Breaking the Law".
Welp, with that, slash, and FFDP, that should shut the MOAR METAL crowd up for a little bit.
EDIT EDIT: Joystiq article also mentions Tom Petty. _________________

Because they can only give legacy songs an upgrade through the store. Disk songs aren't on the store. _________________

Ok I've only seen some screenshots and I'm pretty much sold. This is EXACTLY what I want from a real guitar game/tool. Straight up tabs with the ability to hear yourself. And no chord shapes or rectangles showing where your fingers go. Now my only concern is the setlist and whether or not this gets ported to PS3 (please, please port it to PS3). _________________

Visually it looks pretty unimpressive, but I guess I just need to see it in action more and that it reminds me of what Rock Revolution was trying to do by having simpler interfaces and we know how awful that game was lol.
Nice to see they are coming right out to bring some much needed metal in the setlist, something that Rocksmith lacked completely and almost made me not want to get the game because of it.
Something I'll keep an eye out for, but it's really going to need a good hook. I only got Rocksmith because of it's potential, so this game will have have to do a good bit more and also have a really good setlist. The two metal songs are a start though lol |

Should we have a new thread? |
I would encourage that, actually. If you want I can split off from this topic later today so that no posts are lost. _________________

Having the video is nice to get a sense of how it plays, though it really isn't all that appealing of a game visually lol I mean, are songs only put in if they have videos? What do they do if there isn't a video? Kinda curious about that. I think in the end, it'll just come down to song list probably. It really couldn't do any worse than Rocksmith to me lol |

Previews have stated the visuals are early and subject to change. Right now it seems they just wanted to have something to show people. |

Good to hear. Would be nice if they can get it to look better than one of those freeware games lol |
