Game Universe Closing Last Day 11/01/09

Hey guys,

I'm sorry to say that because of being so scammed at GameUniCon by John Keough and economic issues Game Universe will be closing. Our last day open will be Sunday 11/01/09.

We are very sorry this has to happen.

I want to thank all of our friends that I have met through GU over the years, as well as all of the amazing Pro-Level gamers that have come to our events.

If you would like to, stop by sometime this weekend and say hi! We will be celebrating all weekend long. I wish we could do a huge party but we are having our final Major Tournament Sunday for Street Fighter IV, Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur IV and Saturday is Halloween. (call first in case we decide to close early on Halloween we will be open til at least 7p)

We just found this out from the bank and wish we were given more time to prepare.

Game Universe will continue to run some local events in the future so check back right here and our website, Myspace, etc... for more info on those events.

I(Store Manager Jamie) will be running a Rock Band/GH, Street Fighter IV, and Tekken 6 night at a bar in Framingham called The Tavern. I would love to see you guys come out and have fun with me. It is a 21+ venue but those of age should come have some fun. It is:

I am working on a venue to hold other events like Smash Bros Mass Madness and I hope to announce something soon. I feel responsible to help the awesome community that we love stay alive and continue to grow.

Damn.

Though I've never been to Game Universe "proper", I can say that I'm sorry everything unfolded the way it did. I had wanted to e-mail you some words of encouragement through the whole thing, but you're a hard guy to get in touch with that way.

That, and words wouldn't have helped your financial situation in any way.

In hindsight, of course, it's easy to see all the warning signs--I remember talking to the lady in the hotel gift shop, and mentioning to her "I'm having fun here, but given the hype job, I expected it to be a lot bigger." When she replied "Yeah, so did we here at the hotel.", looking back, that seems like a huge red flag. Not that it helps now of course.

If nothing else, know that I had an awesome time at GameUnicon, and thanks for running it, playing with your band there, and giving me a chance to match myself against some of the best RB players in the land. Thanks to Ben for calling me an amazing Rock Band Vocalist at some point during the weekend too; that really meant a lot to me.

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do in the future.

Awwww That sucks.

Well, thanks for everything. I'm gonna try to make it out to the Tavern sometime soon. We all know how I love to combine my two favorite pastimes (Rock Band and drinking), and I've been itching to actually try SFIV.

This sucks so much to hear - I came by the store sometime back in July and I loved it! I would've loved to go to GameUnicon but it unfortunately fell on the same weekend as Blizzcon.

I'll definitely try to make it to the bar nights though - it's so close to my parents house that I really have no excuse when I'm back home...

i'll try to make saturdays as frequently as i can, i wouldnt want to miss any of these. some of my fondest gaming experiences were at gameuniverse. so sad i really wish there was some way this wouldnt happen. ill try to make it to the closing, and i can only guess there will be tears and gnashing of teeth at the terrible undeserved fate of my favorite game store. heck, the tournaments alone would often be my reason to check sh.

if there's anything possible to do to help you guys out, id partake and i hope you guys are all right in the end.

I just can't believe this. Before Unicon, going to Game Universe every month was what I was always looking forward to, and not only for the tournament of course. I have met so many new friends at Game Universe as well as Rock Band and Guitar Hero masters that I never thought I would ever meet in my entire life. If it wasn't for this event, I would never have met the people I have looked up to for years like Hellashes and Tobias, as well as other good friends like Gaara, Th3DarkM3tal, and Armageddon of course. Going to this event was also a nice event to go to for my brother and I to hang out at (brother bonding if you will

) Anyways, I am very sorry about how it has to end like this all because of some jerk. Hopefully we can get together at another venue sometime so I can chill with all these awesome people again, hopefully see you soon everyone!
