|
|
Here in "Another Banner Thread," we (I, really) have a simple philosophy: banners should be for accomplishments that you are proud of, not accomplishments that I am proud of. It shouldn't matter what the community thinks something is an accomplishment; if you're proud of it, it's an accomplishment. With that in mind, I will make banners for just about anything. This includes harder things, too, so you hardcore players don't need to hit the back button on your browser.
A brief statement on the quality of the banners: The vast majority of these banners were made with very little knowledge of Photoshop. They don't look half bad with that in mind, but more recent banners do look better. If you see an obviously older banner, and would like it remade, I am fine with fielding that request. I am still learning new tricks, so I still ask that you bear with me.
Now, I have two requests for you:
Please host these yourself, and please don't request anything overly specific.
If you do not host these yourself, you jeopardize the existence of the banner, as the website I upload these to limits bandwidth. Additionally, should I wind up replacing a banner with an updated version, the tinypic url for it can and will get reassigned to something else, and it might be something that you don't want in your signature.
When I speak of overly specific requests, I refer to things such as "5 starred Visions Drums while wearing a tutu and drinking milk." Such novelty accomplishments are fun, but I'm not willing to make banners that only one person can/will use.

Not too bad, but the one thing that caught my eye is the way the fonts aren't smooth, try throwing something on them to smooth them down a bit, the edges just come off as a bit harsh around the text. It could also just be the font you're using, however everything looks good.
Keep it up. _________________

Damnit! I really wanted that Rude Mood sig.
I really think you should run with this idea and make "Anti-banners" for shitty performance. This community is so caught up with scoring and FCing that we never take the time to recognize those of us who suck donkey balls. _________________

I think its a great idea as long as you can tell the diference. The thing is, the banner's are being made to show what amazing stuff people have donw, but there are alot of people who cant get the insane FC's that are required, so its a god idea as me fcing something on Hard is jut as important to me as it is to someone who fc's visions or something like that.
Any hard one's you want would be awesome _________________

Myriad Pro is a good font. If ou look next to the text size (assuming you have CS3 or CS2) there's something that says aa, and in the box make sure it doesn't say none, sharp is a good setting for it.
And are you using the stroke setting in layer for the outline? _________________

I do have something that says AA, but I only have the option to turn it on or off. Turning it on did smooth things out better, though. I'll toy around with it a bit more before ultimately deciding on a formula for use in all of them.
The outlines are done in a new layer, but yes, I am using the stroke setting. _________________

AA = anti-aliasing, which is a process that tries to smooth out all those jagged edges (at the cost of some blurriness). Very useful for typesetting fonts, since even stroked fonts can look jagged, especially when scaled. _________________

It definitely makes a difference, so I'll be using that from now on. When I tested it before, I was using the Charlene banner, and it didn't come out so well (presumably because of the dark font). _________________

Those look pretty cool, and you they're obviously different to the others too (which is obviously good).
I'll definatly be keeping an eye on here, might actually be something I can acomplish lol. _________________

High readability makes me like these more than inv4der's banners (and I mean no disrespect to him). I don't have to look twice to read what they say, mostly because of the text color choices. White on black, black on white, and slight variations in between. My vision is terrible, so thumbs up for readability. \m/ Whatever you do, don't fall in love with blending modes and bright colored fonts... please. It's just a personal pet peeve of mine.
What I would suggest is downloading this font. If that's not the typical Rock Band font, it sure as hell is very close. It would make everything look very crisp and clean, and really have that "Rock Band" feel.
For being new at Photoshop, these look nice. It will certainly only get better with time. Keep them up. And how about a "All talky songs FC club" ;)
Edit: I fail at reading the entire thread... on second thought, if the idea is to make these look very different from inv4der's, the font I suggested earlier probably isn't a good choice. I would peruse the sans serif fonts that are out there, or search for something different entirely. The problem with the current font is just how fat it is, and how it gets cut off on the top and bottom of the banners. I'm sure you can find something visually different that can fit more comfortably on the image. (Downloading fonts is like really fun for me <_< you should try it sometime!)
Anyway, my $.02, good luck! If you need any help send me a PM. :P I'm a bit too familiar with font choices.. leading.. tracking.. kerning.. all of that fun typography jargon. I'd be happy to help. ^_^ _________________

I would be a proud member of the "Still can't pass Jordan and TTFAF club" and "YMB 3 star club". |

I'll add in an all talkies FC Club banner the next time I update (tonight most likely)... also I'll have to think of a good picture to use on it.

It was just the first one I saw while scrolling through the font list that looked both nice and legible. For right now, I'll stick with what I have, but I'll try to find something a little less... gigantic.
Edit: Officially planned for tonight's update:
Ace of Spades 08 - Guitar
Ace of Spades 08 - Vocals
All Talky Songs FC
Can't Pass Jordan Club
Can't Pass TTFAF Club
