There is an OLD thread (10 years+ at this point!) about BRE, at least how it works in RB1/2 and 3 engine. Not sure if the info is the same for RB4. Basically, consider the BRE to be a timed sequence of 1.5 second intervals. You can literally spam buttons, or tap in sequence, but the gist of it is that you can only trigger each of the 5 lanes once per every 1.5 seconds. Each lane triggered in that window grants you ~150 points, or 750 per press of all 5. If you press sooner than 1.5 after that, you get fractions of that 150 down to the .1 (so 15, 30, 45 etc for .1, .2, .3 seconds). That lane then counts your next strum as triggered again until that window passes. So, if like in Thunderstruck by AC/DC you have a 21.4 second BRE. Your max BRE there is 11,250, assuming you triggered each lane 15 times, you should get between 10,800 and 11,250. The best suggested way to do so is simply find a comfortable way to press all 5 lanes, and press them as close to once every 1.5 seconds until your BRE runs out.
Spam method: BRYOGYOGBRBRYOG etc.
Pulse method: all 5, pause, all 5 pause, all 5 pause (with the pause being ~ 1.5 seconds).
edit: Finally found the thread: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7303
Most relevant quote straight from his thread:
"***************************************************
The Abridged Version:
1. Press all 5 buttons at once (essentially making it one press)
2. Begin BRE as early as possible
3. Use this simultaneous press once every 1.5 seconds (this way no note isn't accumulating points at any time)
4. Finish the BRE as late as possible using the simultaneous press (this way no accumulating points are lost)
***************************************************"
There are other threads that talk about it, dating back way into 2007 where dfan actually chimed in and confirmed that to max out score you have to "keep all 5 lanes lit every 1.5 seconds". So read his method on that linked thread, but change his 1 second to 1.5 seconds. _________________

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 11/26/2018, enjoy. We had updates for Easy, Medium and Hard this time, very good stuff. Starting out on Easy, it was Cabanon with 2,102,137 points and a FGFC, very nice. Next, for Medium, we had Cabanon again, this time with 1,392,687 points, and DigChouji debuting at 9,128,414 points, very impressive for a single update. Finally, over on Hard, it was Cabanon with 40,845 points, and at least 1,128,446 points from sjay, allowing him to debut at 19,538,895 points, and get on the board. More importantly, this is what allowed sjay to break the 3 billion point mark, narrowly edging out voidedalive2x to that goal, so he gets the nod of the week. Pretty epic with two players getting 3 billion unique points in one update, so lets just hope for more action next time. _________________

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 12/12/2018, enjoy. Pretty quiet update, with the only changes occurring on Medium guitar. For Medium, it was DigChouji with 1,090,450 points all on the disc games, and a massive haul of points by Cabanon of 5,327,725 points mostly from RB2. Unlike the GH side, these are actually very large point gains, hence all the red on the arrows. Enjoy the boards all. _________________

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 01/08/2019, enjoy. There was action this update on all 4 guitar boards for Rock Band, nice work community. Starting us out on Easy, we had 24,184 points added by Cabanon, a solid showing. Next, for Medium, it was Cabanon again, this time with another solid gain of 20,611 points, might be slowing down. Moving over to Hard, it was, you guessed it, Cabanon with 11,113 points 3 boards in one week. Finally, over on Expert, we had GuitarSlayer1307 leap onto the board with 48,813,268 points. As he didn't get the callout on the GH side, we will give the callout to GuitarSlayer1307 whom either just got around to putting in scores, or had one very prolific break for the holidays. Until next time. _________________

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 01/24/2019, enjoy. We only had a single contribution this update, and that was on Medium. Cabanon is continuing his quest to put in a score for every song on Medium Guitar, and added 3,888 points good on him. That was it, let's hope for more (any) action next update. _________________

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 02/11/2019, enjoy. As with the GH boards, I ran them in Office 2016 Mac, which seems to work flawlessly, except for the Medium Guitar, so if that looks off let me know. We had changes to Medium and Hard Guitar this time. Starting off on Medium, it was 800 points from UltraHeroABC5, and a huge jump by DigChouji of 1,063,762 points and 5 spots ranking for his troubles. Finally, over on Hard, it was UltraHeroABC5 again, whom added just enough to appear at 49th place, debuting with just under 18 million points. Decent update, lets hope for more of the same next time, enjoy. _________________

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 02/25/2019, enjoy. We had action this time on both Medium and Hard guitar, a pretty good update. Staring on Medium, it was DigChouji with 327,536 points and several ranking bumps for his efforts. Then, on Hard, we had UltraHeroABC5 debut finally, with a massive haul of 2,812,902 points, vaulting all the way up to 25th for his efforts. Great update, lets hope for more of the same in the future. _________________

Well, I'm a fair ways off from it (being nearly 7m apart from 50th of course), but I'm working my way onto the Medium board at this moment with RB3. For now. MBass should be next, and then we'll see where I am. _________________

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 04/11/2019, enjoy. We had a very quiet update, with a possible single score change. Xpertlefty13 added 985 points on Expert Guitar... and that was it. Let's hope next update brings more to the guitar boards. _________________
