FORUM SIGNATURE RULES
Signatures should either be no more than 170 pixels tall by 800 pixels wide OR 150 pixels tall by 900 pixels wide on a standard resolution/text-size setup. If your signature is causing a horizontal scrollbar to appear, it may be removed.
The choice is given to allow display of 3 banners wide (as a standard banner is 300px wide), but remember it is a choice. If your signature width is between 800-900, then the height cannot exceed 150. That means if you have 3 banner columns wide, your height would be limited to three banner rows and a line of text.
The ScoreHero dynamic stat images are an exception to this restriction, so when measuring the size of your signature, you do not have to include your dynamic stat image (if you have one).
For text, you do not have to insert line breaks to force it to be less than 800/900 pixels wide, but if you have long lines of text, remember to account for the fact that it may wrap to an extra line on lower resolutions.
This box is 800 x 170 pixels:
This box is 900 x 150 pixels:
Added 2011-10-29: We've noticed that apparently due to real-estate above and below lines of text caused by HTML formatting, a signature that starts and ends with text can end up over the height limit even if it appears to fit in the box in the signature-checking utility. If you use the utility, and if you can't see any white space between the bottom of the box and your last line of text, you are probably actually over the height limit once the space (that you can't see) is factored in. This appears to be a text formatting issue only, as making a signature with the 800x170 box above completely fills the box in the utility, and does not come out over the limit.
Beyond the dimension limits, we're also imposing some other restrictions about what things aren't allowed in signatures.
Things that you can NOT have in your signature
- Referral links of any type, Prizerebel or otherwise.
- Links or images that would not be acceptable to post on the forum, use your common sense here. If you're not sure, contact a mod to ask first.
Anything not on the list above is allowed in your signature, though we reserve the right to add new items to the list at any time. Also, remember that everything in your signature is subject to the dimension rules. Even if everything in your signature is allowed, if it is too tall as a whole, it is breaking the rules.
If there's something not on the list and you're not sure about it, please ask in this thread so that we can respond.
Thanks for your cooperation, this will make the forum much easier to read for everyone.

OTHER INFORMATION
We've gone far too long without any formal rules for forum signatures. Some of you might have seen this coming with the recent crackdown on avatars larger than 135x135 (even my own got nuked because it was 1 pixel too tall). This is the next step in cleaning up the visual messes that make the forum harder to read.
The signature size restrictions were selected to match the size of the left column when someone makes a one-line post. This prevents posts from being any taller than they need to be. The SH stat images are an exception so that people are not penalized for contributing to the site, "Thanks for contributing, now cut your sig down by half so you can actually use it!" isn't very nice.
With the launch of the ScoreHero Wiki, a lot of things that are currently in signatures can (and should) be moved to your personal wiki page. If you haven't gotten a chance to play with this yet, go to the wiki (http://wiki.scorehero.com) and click on "Access your user page" at the bottom of the homepage. There you have your own blank slate of a page to do as you wish. For some examples of the cool things other people have done on their user pages, see this page, which links to all the "Featured Users" so far.
TIPS FOR SHRINKING YOUR SIG
To get an idea of how tall your signature already is, add together the heights of any images you have stacked on top of each other, then add 18 for each line of standard-sized text. If you're really not sure and want to check your sig's height (and are using Firefox), download this Firefox Add-on. With it, draw a box around your signature and it will tell you how tall/wide it is.
If you need to resize images in your sig, Paint.NET is a great free image-editor that can do this without the huge quality-loss you'd get from doing it in standard Windows Paint.
To compress the size of your sig further, you can cause images to the right side of the screen with this code (make sure the "Disable HTML in this post" box is unchecked):
Code: | <img src="the_url_to_your_image" align="right" /> |
This allows you to fit some text and an image in the same amount of vertical space. _________________

This is probably fine, but I want to confirm,
are lists of bands you'd like to see in game permitted? _________________

Text is fine in sigs as long as
a) it doesn't include any of the stuff we've listed as "Things that you can NOT have in your signature."
and
b) you don't exceed the 800 x 170 pixel restriction. |

Old but relevant:
(I support this course of size reduction.) _________________

This is the worst news ever... I don't quite understand the reasoning behind that one. I think it actually helps alot of people pay for the massive amounts of DLC that have been coming out. Why exactly is it wrong? Everything else should have been implemented long ago, but this one seems baseless to me. Just want to ask. Why?
Well I changed my sig... I guess the Fedora quote wins. _________________

Big "checkbox-style" goals lists, these should be put on your personal wiki page now.
Referral links of any type, Prizerebel or otherwise.

Pointless uses of freticons (for example, "lol try to FC this" sequences). |
I don't really get what that means, is that like what my sig is? |

I would say no.
My 2 cents, is that this is actually a really good thing. I wiped my Sig not to long ago because it seemed way to large and didnt really provide material that anyone else really wanted to look at. _________________

The crest gamercard I use in my sig is 176 pixels tall, but there's no way I can change that, since it's constantly being updated on mygamercard. Does this mean I need to pick a new card style? _________________

We're sick of scrolling through threads and having it look like a link-farm website.

Your signature isn't your own personal advertising space. Allowing referral links also encourages people to post in every single thread, as often as they can, to maximize the chance that someone clicks their links. This is the exact opposite of what we want. _________________
