Pics show why...
The pedal runs from a button stuck in a block of wood that runs to an audio cable.

You should see if you could get a double bass pedal built. That would be badass second post in hardware! |

Not sure what other pedals are like, so it might not work with yours.
cut a block of wood about the size of the base under the toe area
drill a hole in the center of the wood the size of a small momentary push button (sold at radioshack)
buy 2 color speaker wire (radioshack or anywhere) and cut it about the length of the bass jack on the kit to the floor (and a little slack if needed)
on one end, attach a male audio plug (radioshack) and on the other, stick it through the wood and then your button(doesn't matter what wire for either end, just make sure both wires on both ends are connected to a different prong) then gently force the button into the wood.
Test the button by going into practice for blackened or any song with a long drumless intro and press the button, bass should hit.
Then I mounted the wood block, took the hammer out of he the pedal, and enjoyed my pedal.
Not sure how other pedals are, but mine had supports on the underside of the pedal, so I had to see where the button would hit on the pedal and taped a quarter to the spot. _________________

-What bass pedal do you have exactly? i'll just buy the kind you have if it'd make it easier.
Mine came from an old FirstAct drumset from WalMart
-With the way the button is, what would be the risk you think of you "bending" the button? as in, hitting it at an angle?
Pretty slim, only the plastic at the tip could be bendable, but there isn't enough force to do so.
-Does it feel anywhere near like a real pedal? as in, does it spring back up after a hit whatsoever and are you able to do quick hits with it, or is it limp and doesn't feel all that accurate?
Its a little more loose since there isn't a hammer to swing. It bounces back and quick hits can be achieved by putting the hammer on, but it can get hard to control quickly. _________________

Maybe drilling the hole for the button at an angle would help?
Oh and how much would the Male Audio Plug and the "Button" cost? i have everything else. I have literally MILES of speaker wire... _________________

That looks awesome. You're right, it doesn't look like it'll break. |

Great Job! Very clever.
I'm also going to be looking at this mod.
We had our first RB party last night and also our first hardware failure. Bass pedal died...snapped at the base. The really sad thing is that this was the 1st person other than myself to use the RB drum kit and he broke it on his first song. Frankly, the bass pedal sucks! I can't imagine how many warranty returns that EA is getting on these now. At least the process is very straightforward (assuming you have a credit card)
This gets me thinking if there would be a way to take an existing electronic drum kits bass drum (I use a pintech edrum mounted on a stand that the bass pedal beats against like a real bass drum) and convert it into the connector that plugs into the unit. Of course if this would work, not that hard to extend it to an entire kit. I think the difficult part is getting the midi controller 'talk' with the RB controller.
I think its only a matter of time till full edrum support is hacked. |

Wow very nice, I'll keep it in mind for when my bass pedal breaks. _________________
