Does DLC Insert itself into "Gig Play"?

I swear the "completed X of Y" songs total increased after downloading some packs.

On another note ... Is there any way to get DLC while in the game? I couldn't figure it out and had to go to XBL menus to get it.

This game ownes and I've only used the guitar so far.

Yes, DLC incorporates itself into the game instead of being shoved over to the side like in GH2/3.
