July 27, 2008: (sorry for posting this on both sides of SH, but I know some folks mainly stick to one side and I want to make sure they all catch this)
A couple of big announcements:
(1) I'm now officially a member of PMS! For those of you who don't know, PMS Clan is a competitive all-girl gaming clan. I'm really happy to be joining a community with so many great people, and I hope to do them proud. My new tag over there is going to be PMS Lammy (see my new avatar), but don't worry - I'll still happily answer to sentimentalgeek, SG, Mrs. Geek, SGeek, Sent, etc.
(2) After 4 years in the UK, I am finally moving back to the US and will be away from all things Guitar Hero and Rock Band until early September, when Mr. Geek and I move into our shiny new apartment in Seattle! In order to get all our stuff from the UK to the US we'll have to pack our consoles, games, controllers, etc., and send them across the ocean ahead of us. Sadly this means no more streams or new accomplishments for a while. I'll try to stop by ScoreHero every now and then, and those of you who enjoy my videos - keep watching YouTube, as I'll try to keep things updated there! But my online time will probably be much more limited for a while. I hope to make up for the lost time when I get settled again!
======
July 14-15, 2008: I Get By vocal FC video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=I4KNExAisuU
Dogfoodnyc and I made another vocal duet video. Well, really he made the video - I just sang into a microphone. But this is just us singing for fun. And you get to hear more of him this time around!
Dirty Little Secret: http://youtube.com/watch?v=QKpR6vL2W4E
======
July 12, 2008: Holy moly, you guys and gals - I feel like a true champion this morning. Got up, popped in RB for about an hour, and with a one-two punch managed to knock out the two disc songs that are considered the most vocally challenging (disregarding talkies) in the game!! YEEEEEESSSSSS!!!
======
July 10, 2008: Shiny new XVox FCs
50. Won't Get Fooled Again
51. Train Kept A Rollin
52. Suffragette City
Video #1: The Guitar's Serenade from Apollo Justice, with vocals: http://youtube.com/watch?v=UEP8u9N-DII
Heh, not a GH/RB-related video, but fans of of the Ace Attorney series might find it amusing.
Video #2: Vocals Tips for Rock Band: How to sing or avoid octave jumps in some songs: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XaqwakXxP9M
More explanation either in the video description or this thread.
Video #3: SH Vocal Challenge: How Good Can You Sound? Mississippi Queen: http://youtube.com/watch?v=R6BpDTOJ9vM
For the forum challenge where we're supposed to attempt real, rather than robotic, singing in Rock Band.
Video #4: XVox FC #50!! Won't Get Fooled Again: http://youtube.com/watch?v=WpGssFxttgQ
Folks who have watched my streams know that I often have trouble getting some of the talkies in this song to register (the 2nd "No No!" and the epic "YEAAAAH"). Well, I finally figured out how to hit those "broken" talkies - I need to set my microphone at exactly 40% sensitivity - no more, no less. It makes all the difference between the pie filling 0% or the pie filling 100%. Go figure.
And I'm now the second person to hit 11.4 million XVox career points on PS2. It's pretty ludicrous, because due to scoring differences, the maximum you can hit on Xbox 360/PS3 is a little over 11.35 million, so clearly my career total isn't all that meaningful. I think the max you can get on PS2 is around 11.5 million, theoretically, so I probably need to attain at least 11.45 million to approximate the "gold standard" of 11.3 million on the other systems.
======
July 7, 2008: Got 5* on the last couple of songs I needed to achieve Voxbass Godliness! I also hit 20 million voxbass points in the process.
Also played some Guitar+Vocals and upped my score to 21 million (almost 22!). And I was pretty psyched when I got my 4th Voxtar double-FC on stream! I even happened to be recording it! YouTube video here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=GBbh8wq5wTk
======
July 5, 2008: "Tutorial" video which demonstrates how you can sing the same lines in different octaves, or even change octaves in the middle of a line, and still get "Awesome" ratings: http://youtube.com/watch?v=EePA355MENo
======
June 25, 2008: Last night I did it! I got 5* on GG&HT on expert/expert voxtar and became a legitimate Voxtar God!
I also got my 3rd voxtar double FC: Time We Had! Video here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DhK7gbO9jCQ

Talkies easier on PS2? Gotta get that.
Don't know about the talkies but any GS on vocals is demanding. Your 99%'s go alot more toward the gold stars than any path does. Let's face there's only like 4 activations for Sabotage and others.
So way to go talent boy. That's not easy to do at all.
And not to discredtit the GS on FWD but that song is way too deep in the career for how hard it really is. Having said that, and by comparison, I tried that song about 3 times total, missed "now c'mon babe" and the next phrase each time for a 98% and no GS. So if you got the awesome on c'mon babe, good job. Now teach me how to say C'mon babe. please. _________________

Thanks! I can't compare the talkies between systems, but I'd read somewhere that for PS2, all you need to do is just be vocalizing SOMEthing during the talky parts and you should be fine. I don't think it's quite as easy as that, at least not with my disc. I find that if I just go "AAAAAAAAAH" during an entire talky part I typically get a "weak" or "okay", with the occasional "strong".
I also feel like I get way better results (i.e., actually fill the pie) if I TALK REALLY LOUDLY. It's funny, because the mic picks up my voice great when I sing really quietly, but it refuses to acknowledge my talking unless I shout.
I can't remember if I got "awesome" on the "c'mon babe". I'm definitely aware that there are certain talking phrases that plague vocalists everywhere though. _________________

Yeah I'm on my second reads for X and finally got a couple GS's on some easy ones. The X vocal strategy is deeper than I assumed. Thought all ya had to do was sing
I've burped and rasberried through talkies so phenome detection = bullsh*t.
Where do you rank after your sightreads on PS2? That's probably pretty high. _________________

Bumped for 1st place on Maps with 156,824 points Video here.
Also tied for 1st place on In Bloom with 294,776 points.
I just finished going through all the songs once and have only had a chance to sing a few a second time, but I'm currently at 7.7 million points. Not especially high since there are lots of songs that aren't 5-starred yet, but I'll keep working on them! _________________

grats on Maps.
Also if you learn how to squeeze really well, it is possible to get that In Bloom score slightly higher for a sole 1st. |

Thanks for the advice! It's really hard to know what the optimal scores are for PS2, since there are some differences in scoring (percussion parts for sure - don't know about other parts) and there are very few people doing vocals on PS2 currently. I keep having to flip back and forth between the 360 leaderboards and my own scores to try to figure out how I stack up. _________________

Ya look at the 360 section for the top scores, if you rank high there then you can definitely be up there on PS2 |

Heh, one of these days, I'm going to have to find someone with the PS2 version of the game, and try FCing all the songs I haven't yet on Xbox 360 - Detroit Rock City, Ballroom Blitz (both of which I've been close), When You Were Young, Sabotage, I'm So Sick and of course Next to You. |

Aw, thanks soldat029. I'm sort of embarrassed putting my voice out there but I'm so tired of seeing vocal videos where you can't hear anything or there's just humming/mumbling. No offense to the people who made those videos, of course, but IMO it's so much cooler if you can hear the person singing.
Kawigi: The talky parts are supposedly easier on the PS2 but I think I do okay on the songs that don't have talky parts too.
Bumped for 5-starring the main setlist, and FCs of Creep, Wanted Dead or Alive, Go with the Flow. _________________
