Rock Band bands in the New Brunswick, NJ area, take note!

Rutgers University (NB) will be hosting a large, multi-organizational event named "L.E.O.-Con," with one of the features being a part-style, part-skill judged Rock Band tournament!

WHERE: College Avenue Gym, Rutgers University
WHEN: Saturday, April 19th, 1:00 PM - 11:00 PM

All video-game tournaments are hosted by the Underground Gaming Society of Rutgers, but there's tons more at LEO-Con than just UGS and Rock Band. Check out the LEO-Con Facebook group for details. ============ Rock Band "Battle of the Bands" ============

Keeping in spirit with the nature of the game, our Rock Band tournament will stress both play skill and performance skill as factors for winning. The "Battle of the Bands" will take place on a stage in the main gym, with speakers protruding outwards towards the audience for an authentic "gig" feel.

Our current system involves the use of both two actual performance judges as well as the in-game tallies of note percentage and score to determine each band's overall tournament placement. Here is the breakdown:

Performance: 20.0 (10.0 & 10.0)
Band Percentage (average): 10.0
Score (% of RBSH top score): 7.0 => 10.0
Difficulty Adjustment (DA): - 5.0 => + 10.0

The "Score" will be determined by what tier (by band) song you play on...tiers 1-3 allow you a max of 7, tiers 4-5 allow you a max of 8, tiers 6-8 allow you a max of 9, and tier 9 allows you a max of 10. The percentage will determine how close to the max you get.

DA (drums, guitars)

Easy = - 1.5
Medium = - 0.5
Hard = + 1.0
Expert = + 2.5

DA (vocals)
------------
Easy = - 0.5
Medium = + 1.0
Hard = + 2.5
Expert = N/A

In-song failure penalties: - 1.0 each time

MAX POSSIBLE SCORE: 50

There will be a $20 entry fee per band ($5 per person for a 4-person band, more with fewer people). One-man/woman-bands will be allowed and will only be charged $10, but they are only allowed if the entrant plays vocals along with either lead guitar or drums. Prizes are currently set to be a First Place award of $160 in Best Buy gift cards and a Second Place award of $40 in gift cards.

There will be three rounds. The first round will consist of every registered band playing a song of their choosing (certain songs will be banned due to length; list to come shortly, including DLC available for play). Afterwards, if there are less than eight bands, the best three will play another, different song of their choosing. If there are eight or more, it will be the best four who advance. Finally, the best two bands will advance to a final rock-off, with all songs (save for those previously played by the two finalists) legal for play.

"The Battle of the Bands" is scheduled to start at 5:00 PM.
