QM sets get better with tape, as I found out on the first day etc. right?
But put too much tape on any one drum and the other drums will set that drum off when you hit them.
But, without the tape, doing 16ths is near impossible on the red drum (and others). So what I needed was something that dampened vibration to the OTHER drums, but squeezed the drum head of each drum at the same time.
After a video I made for harmonix, I got the idea to use socks.
Yes, socks.
So here's what you need:
-4 crew-socks (the long kind)
-8 rubber bands (strong ones)
-8 strips of tape
First, take your drumset off the stand and disconnect it from the Xbox360 (or PS3): you're going to see why later.
Then, one by one, do this for each drumhead:
-Put two rubber bands around each drum.
-Then get a sock and put it over the rubber bands, pull tightly to wrap it around the drum head, and then pull the rubber bands out from under the sock so they rest COMPLETELY on the sock, vertically oriented.
-Check to make sure the rubber bands are not touching anything but the sock.
-Then, get a strip of tape and tape the rubber band and sock together to the bottom and top of the drum shell (but don't let it touch the drum head!)
Repeat for all four heads: for the blue and yellow, you'll need to slip it over the green and red drums first (respectively), and for the blue you'll need to pull the controller cord through the rubber band so it'll actually fit.
I did this and wow, my garbage QM set became a dream set: I admittedly haven't tried it out of practice yet, but I was FC'ing the first half of Blackened, so...
This setup should make vibration to other drums completely dissapear, while making sensitivity go way up on all four drums. And as an added bonus, it makes the noise of the drums go WAYYY down. _________________

Ive got a QM set, and tape on the red only has been working pretty well (though not exactly perfectly). This, however, seems like an awesome idea because gaining sensitivity and lowering pad noise would be ideal. If I were to do this, would I keep the red pad taped, or take it off and have only the sock/rubber band on it? _________________

Definitely take the red tape off: you can tape the sock and rubber band together on the underside of the red drum, but you definitely don't want any tape directly touching the drums anywhere.
I can't believe how much this works: I mean, I just 5-starred Blackened with 284,000 on this! :O _________________

Thanks, I couldnt get to my set to try it out last night, but I figured Id ask cause I didnt want to mess anything up. Hah, just when I thought my set couldnt look any more ghetto with a ducttaped red pad and a real bass pedal mod...but if it works, dont judge a drum set by its socks _________________
I can confirm that this works! I currently have both a QM and an EL set. The EL set I just got rolled better but was still missing hits/double hits I don't know which but breaking my combo. I tried the socks on both sets, it didn't effect the EL set, but on the QM set I just got my first 100% ever! Granted it was only on medium but still before I could not keep a combo on either set long enough to fc a song even on easy. I also went to practice mode on expert Cherub Rock on the intro. It also seems to fix the rolls. I had tape on them before, but I took it off and tried just the socks and only missed 1 or 2 notes on the opening rolls and I'm sure that was just me because I am not that good on drums. The only problem with it is it does look like crap with socks on your drums, I am gonna play around with it some today and see if I can mod this mod to make it effective yet a little more pleasing to the eye.
i just tried this with my qm set and the difference is amazing. went from failing out of cherub rock in the intro to hitting most of the rolls. (i failed later though since i dont play on expert. ) but still this fix works wonders.

I'm going to try this out at some point, since I am worried that my rolls are not registering, but on the other hand I am not yet very good at this game so I don't know if it's me or the kit. Unfortunately I think by the time I figure it out my warranty will be up since I bought the game the first day (but was not allowed to play it until Christmas) and then on Jan 2 my 360 got the red lights of death, and just came back last Friday.
HAHAHAHAAHA!! this is the gayest fix for a broken product ever created.
I don't understand, if Harmonix is supposedly working with you by taking your feedback and sending you new sets, then why don't they test the set to see if it's a piece of shit before they send it to you? If the EL set was so badass when you got it but broke, then why don't you put gum rubber or mouse pads over the heads when you get them to protect them from breaking quickly? _________________
