I have always had a problem with these, moreso when it comes to guitar/bass. They are the most frustrating thing, and I have no idea how you're supposed to hit them. Any tips or help?

I did a similar thread some months ago, you can look at the answers here:

I got a little better but I still I can't do strum lanes good at all, I break my combo during note changes no matter what I do.

I'll definitely recommend the advice given in the thread Iggy linked to for strum lanes. Haven't tested the HOPO part (hasn't really come up on Bass), but ending a note early between consecutive lanes has improved my rate for holding combo dramatically.

(Can't really help with trill lanes, as I see those even less than the strum lanes and never with enough frequency to be a huge concern.)

I have 95% consistency on all of Crazy Train except the trills. A nice, complementing 5% on the trills. Roll lanes aren't that bad- just play what you see and stop on the next-to-last note.

I have to say this is the dumbest mechanic in RB3.
