I have no musical talent, tried guitar and it was terrible.
I feel pretty adept on guitar though, after not playing for 2 years, I bought WoR and 5*'d the entire set list the day after. I mean, I'm not UKOG or anything, but I'm content with where I am with guitar.
I need drums but with my last working ones I was gold starring RB2's setlist.
No offense but you just sort of hum or make a noise for vocals, I had no problem doing them.
NOW, I just purchased RB3 and the keyboard. I've never even touched a keyboard before. What should I know before I tackle this beast? > _________________

I'm pretty sure I have to start up from easy so I don't know if pro is such a good idea. I know pro drums is like double bass and pro guitar is actually playing a guitar, but how do pro keyboard and regular keyboard differ? Because if I need a real keyboard...pros kind of out of the question. _________________

Not really sure what you're asking in regard to the real keyboard, but in terms of standard RB3 keys vs. Pro Keys, standard really only helps with finger strength and some coordination. Pro keys is where you're actually playing the notes to the song, and if you want to play pro I would recommend starting out on pro. I guess about the real keyboard you're asking if pro keys is EXACTLY how you would play it on a real keyboard? No, since a regular keyboard is bigger than the 25-key RB3 keyboard. However, if you play the notes from the pro keys charts on a real keyboard, it would sound close, if not exact to the original song. _________________

Standard keys uses only 5 keys on the keyboard, and displays the same as guitar or bass. Pro keys uses the entire midi keyboard. They're both totally different experiences. If you eventually want to play pro keys, then start on Easy Pro Keys. |

I found starting on Easy to be a waste of time, as it's just too slow and limited to teach you anything that you honestly wouldn't get from playing standard keys. (hitting one note, whole note gap, another note)I found that Medium worked better for starting, and once I got the hang of Medium, I moved straight up to expert and played things that REALLY challenged me. (A personal favourite to play was Crippled Inside.) Obviously I turned out ok, so it can't have been that horrible a strategy. |

I personally started on expert+no-fail. I learned from failing without literally failing. |

For some reason, i presumed you could only change your difficulty between pro/standard on expert.
I didn't know standard only used 5 lanes, thats retarded. I could just play guitar if I wanted to do that.
Pro Medium is what I'm tackling today 8) thanks everyone! _________________

No prob. The trainers are pretty good for teaching some of the basics. _________________

It definitely takes practice. The advice in this thread has, so far, been really helpful for me. What I'd suggest is play without making the lane fast and just get adjusted to that. _________________

it may help to learn the songs in order of difficulty
even if you're just picking up Pro Keys, you should be able to FC Need You Tonight on Expert, even if you're struggling with most songs on Medium
there's a pretty huge learning curve with the on disc songs
these two threads should give a pretty good idea of the difficulty progression with the on disc songs
5* Breakdown
FC breakdown
these threads are for the Expert charts, but the difficulty order is probably somewhat similar to lower difficulties
btw, i started Pro Keys on Rock band with no prior piano experience as well.
i regularly failed out of apprentice and solid tier songs at first, but it didn't take long to get the hang of it
it takes more practice and memorization than 5 button instruments, but i think it's much more fun, and totally worth it once you start getting good at it _________________

Honestly I'm starting to see improvements in my playing and by that I mean I'm actually hitting the black keys. But really I'm getting more responsive and its just too fun to just ABLE to play pro keys so I want give up. Ill just take baby steps _________________

Don't worry, took me a while to get used to that, especially to read it. And what they said, you should be able to play on expert on the easy stuff, and just work your way up in difficulty. I'm pretty sure you'd be able to at least pass the warmups and the apprentice songs. |
