How did you infer that?

Even then the nerf was way too much. 750 points per flame note would have made a lot more sense. They are now in the same category as Runaway Notes. Actually Runaway Notes are more effective than post nerf Flame Notes which is just sad.

Flame notes got nerfed because of the band/flame-exploit; so HMX had to make sure to have the least amount of songs possible to be affected by that thus resulting in jack/flame being worthless

well this is by far the worst decision that HMX has ever done and deserve the hate that they are getting. HMXPope said that they would never NERF a powerup in a leaderboard based game because you will have scores on most songs that are unobtainable and what do they do? They blatant admit to rushing out a flame note nerf just to get this idiotic tournament out of the way that only the US player base can even take part in. me, Microsoft, ominan, Grand-Master and god knows who else are all left in the dust and can't take part in this tourney. Instead we get a broken game that use to work that we payed for.

I've lost so much respect to HMX. Oh well I'm going back to trophy hunting and playing some new games that I've got.

Did they make the formal announcement yet?

This is what's been announced so far: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=233095&p=4952311&viewfull=1#post4952311

To summarize the post, they looked through a bunch of statistics and determined that flame notes were overpowered right before launching this new tournament system. Since they felt inclined to get tournaments started as quickly as possible, they chose to rush out a flame note nerf even though it was clear that buffing the other powerups was the better option. They also supposedly did this while HMXPope was out for the holidays, so he had no input on the matter.

EDIT: Disregard that last part, I didn't notice that the quote was from HMXPope.

I dont think thats accurate 'cause in the above post, Henry quotes Pope on the explanation of the nerf.

OK, but look at what he said as well; it won't be the only change and fix to the game. They'll keep doing stuff to balance it out, so I don't expect this to stick. Maybe they'll raise flame to 500 - 750 points per note, maybe Shockwave will give you more points per note next update. Who knows?

Looks like they were rushing to get it done in time for their tournaments and decided to err on the side of caution if anything.

I don't play Blitz, but I feel bad for you guys. I can imagine having to replay all my RB3 songs if they changed the cutoff system or some other aspect of the scoring system that invalidated my old scores, and I'd be pretty livid.

If anyone is still wondering how bad the flame note nerf is.

I used Jackpot/Flame Notes/Super Vocals on Shout. That's the loadout I used on my 795k score which is 1st place on PSN.

Today I got 100% on every instrument and overhit 1 jackpot which did cost me a gold star.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVljhW4zEJE

But seriously WTF? How is that balance? I also have a 760k+ run on my channel using the exact same loadout before the nerf. I made this video for comparison sake on how bad it is. Well I can't take the scoring system seriously anymore. This is pathetic that they have to rush a nerf just to get a facebook tournament up and running as fast as possible.

I'll admit that I could have chained flame notes a lot better but I just wanted to prove a point. Anyways I'm fairly sure that HMX will have to respond to this kind of change due to the outroar on the forums. Almost every post on there have been negative about this decision and have every right to be.

I've been messing with pinball for a while, and it seems to be the only way to compete in the leaderboards now on songs that were previously done with Jackpot/Flame. It will probably also be the powerup of choice for tournaments, replacing one overpowered powerup with a different one. Here's a terrible quality video of one of my random pinball runs.

I'm not livid, I'm just completely indifferent now, I don't care anymore.

I have confirmed that pinball is now the best powerup for just about everything. Some pre-nerf flame scores (mainly on short songs and 3-lane songs) are impossible to beat with anything though.

Here's my second video of pinball, this time with much better quality.

Haha, holy shit.

At least with Flame you were still playing the game.

I got 981,328 on Highway Star using Pinball Sync. I'm not sure if pre-patch Flame Notes could beat that but I could be wrong. It definitely takes skill to use it effectively and it's not easy to break the top scores. I still can't beat the japanese pinball masters on Heavy Weather on PS3 to this date. Whether that skill has anything to do with rhythm gaming is highly debatable though. I'm still going to continue using that combo because I personally find it fun to use even though I recognize it being overpowered. At least it's not overpowered to the extent that it doubles the next possible score on a 3 minute song like what Band/Flame would do. Before the nerf, Flame Notes could still destroy pinball/sync scores unless the song was very dense.

I think it was dumb to nerf it, but they really did need to do /something/ about Jack/Flame. Still, dumb to only look at that when Pinball is still there.

I think this is how they should have done it:

Lower flame notes to anywhere between 700 - 800, whichever is more "balanced" (maybe even 600?), OR have a set value for flame notes (say, 400 - 500), and have it rise up with multipliers (however this would break long songs like 2112). Pinball, I don't know how the hell you can balance that without outright removing it.
