I got a question about the Rock Band 3 Pro mode. I own the adapter and use it with my Simmons SD7K drumset. I wanted to start playing Pro Guitar or Bass. My question would be can I use any Midi Compatiable Guitar or Bass, OR!! Does it HAVE to be the Mustang guitar that Harm sells?

To work out of the box, you'd need either the Mustang/Squier Rock Band guitar, or the entirely third-party YouRockGuitar to go along with your MIDI pro adapter. If you have the appropriate equipment to convert your MIDI guitar output to actual MIDI data, there are some threads on the Rock Band forum about using some software that emulates a Squier and allows you to use the MIDI guitar in-game:

The Squier can be used as a regular guitar, but they are pretty hard to come by now since they were discontinued. The Mustang is MIDI-only so you can't just plug it in to an amp; you'll have to hook it up to something that understands MIDI. I believe the YouRock guitar can be hooked up to a regular amp though.

The YouRockGuitar is a full synthesizer, and it has both a 1/4" and a 1/8" output, so you can plug it into an amp or even just headphones quite easily. I've heard that the synth sounds it comes with aren't that impressive, but you could always use third party sounds if you like. For the Mustang, you can get away with plugging it into any hardware/software synthesizer as ricecake says.

Word, word, I'm trying to just get a squier than from Ebay. I always wanted to learn guitar but never had time for lessons, so i figured if it's a fully functional guitar and it can be played with one of my favorite games then that's a win:win right there!!!

Thanks Guys for the Help!!

Just my opinion but if you want to learn guitar you are better off buying a used guitar on ebay or CL and Rocksmith.
