Yeah, country guitar is usually really fun to play. But I'm gonna wait till I see the tracks before I buy. |

Judging from the preview vid (http://www.guitarnoize.com/100-famous-guitar-riffs-one-take/), I'd say they look decent on guitar. Not the greatest country tracks, but still pretty decent on guitar, and reasonably well rounded on all the other instruments too. |

Two dedicated track packs is unbalanced? That's more than any other genre got. I guess I wasn't aware country was just that popular. It seems like it should be a more niche thing. I personally don't know a single person who likes any of the country stuff. |
If you look at country songs as a percentage of DLC as a whole (and especially once you factor in RBN), yeah, it's pretty underrepresented. If you go to any remotely rural area in the US, it's all they listen to. I think that you could make the argument pretty easily that (next to hip-hop, obviously) it's the most blatantly ignored genre in the game.
According this this article, sales for Country and its subgenres were at 42,923,000 last year as opposed to 105,685,000 for Rock, and I highly doubt that ROCK Band (yes, let's get the distinction of the game's title out of the way now) has a DLC ratio anywhere close to that roughly 2/1 mark. This is an extreme simplification, of course- the amount of people in those rural areas play the game less, don't have access to high-speed internet as much as those who do buy DLC, play videogames less in general, etc.- TL;DR, they're not the target audience.
However, in a more practical sense, I think that any night at a suburban (or even hipster) karaoke bar will tell you that Carrie's style of pop-country is extremely popular with women. I've seen panties drop to renditions of Keith Urban and Luke Bryan songs faster than damn near anything else.
/Whew. Maybe I should've put this in either the Music or Rant II threads. |
Thank you for typing all that out so I didn't have to. Yes, 2 Country Track Packs is more than any other genre, but it is also some of the ONLY country we've gotten. Not that I'm clamoring for more country as I'm not a huge fan or anything, but it is a highly underrepresented genre compared to it's selling power and it's some variety compared to recent weeks (when was the last time we got country? Edit: Looks like we got the Country Track Pack last February and those songs re-released as DLC in November... that's a good 7 months at least).
Rock Band is a party game first and foremost and a lot of people know and want to play/sing country songs. Plus they're not un-fun on the other instruments most of the time so they make for good compromise songs in my experience. Not a week for me but they're not bad choices. _________________

Out of the handful of country songs I've played on RB, most of the charts were very fun indeed, especially on guitar, at least playing through the 2nd country track pack that I got for free. Perhaps I'm biased because I live in central Texas, but I thought country music was pretty popular throughout the country. Carrie Underwood's one of the most popular country artists too; this is going to sell, plain and simple.
I don't mind this at all, but it's not something I'll be getting. I like some country music(when my job doesn't play country radio stations all day every day, and those stations play the same 10-12 songs on an endless loop), but not this. _________________

Yep, echoing what others have already said upthread: there are a surprising number of folks out there who like their country music. Like my little sister: heavily tattooed, gives off serious piss-off biker bitch sort of vibes at times... and whenever she comes to visit, she invariably asks if I have any new country songs in Rock Band. It's a far more embraced genre than one might guess at first blush. (And yeah, a cursory hang-out at any random karaoke night will generally confirm this. Even in the San Francisco Bay Area, which feels like one of the least country places ever.)
It's not especially my cup of tea, musically speaking, but it's not like I take mortal offense to its existence or something, and the guitar charts are habitually above-average. So sure, Carrie Underwood: why not? If it turns out that I don't like the songs, I will somehow find one of the other thousands of readily available songs to prevent me from crying myself to sleep at night. _________________

Meh, I don't really like this kind of country music, but it is really fun to play on guitar. I enjoy most country, just not all of it, because some of it is depressing. Good Girl is one of the best songs from any female country vocalists, says CMT. If I had PSN, I probably would buy this pack. |

Ya Youhas hit the nail on the head pretty well, and especially as someone who lives right on the edge of farm country in Colorado it's incredibly prevalent here.
For me personally however it's a definite pass, country songs on drums are usually rather standard and boring. _________________

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I don't take offence at people enjoying it. I just didn't realize it was so popular, although I guess this stuff with a pop vibe to it would have a broader appeal. Oh well, not my cup o' tea, but whatever floats your boat. Who needs new songs when there's so much work to be done on the harmony upgrade project? _________________

Before He Cheats is 7 years old? That's probably the most shocking part of the announcement. _________________

Country's not my thing, so I'll pass.
Also, with Daughtry and Carrie Underwood announced, sounds like an American Idol thing going on here. Betting on Clarkson. |
