I learned that everything should be wav 16 or 24 bit. I want to chart a song thats only out in 256kbps right now. Is my only problem with this going to be transcoded audio? Or is there another route? Maybe convert tracks to mp3 and render in mp3?

1) Bit depth is not bits per second, so it does not compute.
2) Just import the audio in Reaper to author, then render the audio out at 16 bit, 44 KHz, stereo.

The final result is a relatively crappy ogg, regardless of how much gnashing of teeth you do on the front end.

What you feed into REAPER should be the best you can get.

What you have to feed Magma is a 44.1 or 48 KHz, 16- or 24-bit wav.

Will it render a flac? Or does reaper not support flac?

I looked a bit, im just making sure whether there is a nifty feature that will replace my wav with a flac, so i dont have to spend the time to delete the wav and place the flac in the correct place.

What time? Create a new track right under the wav file. Insert the FLAC. Zoom in and make sure they're aligned at the beginning and the end. Mute the wav and re-render.

It's really not going to matter. After Magma compresses it to Ogg, you won't hear the difference.

Or, right click on the audio track, Item Properties > Length, Copy. Delete audio, insert new audio, right click on the audio track, Item Properties > Length, Paste.

Assuming they match perfectly, sure. I think it's important to look before you leap!

Of course, I assumed they were exact copies, sorry.

Well, i was just hoping i could trick reaper into looking for the wav and finding the flac instead. Since the wav files are transcodes of my flac, it would be the same length.

I just want the least amount of bad transcoding as possible.

Also Magma sets the audio to be -3
Reaper sets the audio to be +3 but the master at something like -.8 or something. I don't know if thats normal, Rockband format default, but i figure its probably a good idea to just set everything at 0.

Especially if there are bass drops in songs like Welcome To The Family, where they get distorted with too much bad transcoding.
