|
|
Many are talking about hacking rockband for Xbox 360 and PS3. I haven't heard much talk about Rockband on the PC.
So maybe emulators and original content on the PC is not going to happen.
So what is accomplished already? Well we know that both PC and Xbox 360 drum kits work on the PC (with driver).
So has anyone thought or discussed a homebrew pc application for creating and playing tracks (like a rockband clone)?
I myself am an intermediate programmer in .net C#, but not so much C++. I would be intrested in hearing from some other programmers and see if anyone else would share intrest in this type of a project. |

If you want to play the song, that's probably possible. The MIDI format is known and can be extracted from the PS2 discs. I'm hearing odd things about the VGS files, but I've got a high confidence that they'll be worked out, so you'll have audio.
I sort of doubt that you'll get the "rock band experience", though -- no emulator is anywhere near fast enough, so you'd be looking at ground up rewrite of the actual game engine. I imagine that it won't be long before there's something that can rip it into Frets on Fire format or similar. |

I think TurkeyMan said original plans for FeedBack were basically going to be Rock Band before Rock Band was actually announced. He might not get around to implementing them for a while because he has a life and needs an artist. _________________

I have yet to see any riped audio. Did someone actually figure this out yet? If so, how do you convert it? |

Head over to the software forum on the regular SH site. Turkeyman(creator of dB) is seriously considering releasing a version of dB which will allow the user to play guitar and drums in dB, like a stepmania thing. He hasn't released a lot of details though, but i seem to remember him saying he has the code up and running for the explorer but he just hasn't released it.

I'm not 100% what a driver is but it would make the item work. It installs when you first plug the item into you computer. Like a keyboard when you buy it, it comes with a drivers CD-ROM to make it work properly. _________________

Actually, you don't need drivers for ps3 instruments (I don't know about 360) you just plug them in and it picks it up as a game controller. _________________

I have actually plugged them into my comp. And it says in the corner that a new hardware has been detected and installed. But when I go to "My Computer", it doesn't say that there is nothing plugged in. I don't know what to do. _________________

the controller won't show up in My Computer because it is not a drive (not to be confused with driver), it is just a USB controller. In other words there is no folders/memory on the guitar/drums so you cant look in it through My Computer. _________________

Yup...just played DTXMania StepMania with my guitar/drum controllers for PS3. Just plug and play (with a little delay to install the hardware). Woo.

For the 360 drum kits and guitars, you have to download the Xbox 360 controller driver for it to work. It will detect the Rock Band guitar controller as "Harmonix Guitar Controller" and the drum kit as "Harmonix Drum Kit" or something like that.

For anyone who doesn't trust the 3rd party downloader (not saying its bad but some people are freaked out about that kinda stuff) heres the official link for the driver:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/download.mspx
(Go to Controllers --> Xbox 360 Controller for Windows --> Your OS --> Your Language)
you can also just plug in a normal wired 360 controller and it will automatically install the driver _________________
