I know you purists will likely hate me, but I actually liked a good part of DT's recent work. I wouldn't say it was better than what they've done before, just different, and as a metal fan, different in a way I enjoyed.
To be fair, I think I enjoyed their albums more going from Six Degrees back, and liked individual songs going from Train of Thought forward (i.e. I think Scenes is a great composition in its entirety, where I like the song Octavarium more than the album, and I like a song here and there from Systematic Chaos). However, starting with Black Clouds I went to liking parts of songs instead of songs or albums.
I guess what I'm saying is that while I think it's fair to say their overall quality started to decline, it wasn't throwaway, just more of it was throwaway than it was before. I liked the new album and wasn't at all upset with the return to pure prog, but found I was still picking songs as opposed to just letting it play like I did with the old "pure prog" albums. _________________

Hmm, well...
"songs we like": Completely subjective thing.
"songs that represent the band well": Given that this is the promoted song from the new album, the band and label must feel it represents them well enough. And anyway, one of the criticisms of the new album has been that it's too obviously a retread of Images and Words, so if nothing else it's probably representative.
"songs that are fun to play for everyone and not just the elite": You mean like every week of DLC since Yes? Do you think there is a legitimate concern that HMX is not putting out DLC that is accessible to the talents of the everyday RB player? And given that every Dream Theater song that fans like best has the difficulty turned up to 11, how do you suggest they would have picked a song that represents the band well, AND is fun to play for everyone and not just the elite?
As for the general point, yeah, I'm looking forward to this song because it will be challenging, not because I love this period of Dream Theater. Other people will do the same. It's the classic "Well the charts should at least be good" reaction we've seen in numerous other DLC threads. If that upsets you, sorry, but I think you'll get over it.
EDIT for diplomacy: I can see where my post could come across as "SH only cares if stuff is hard". That's not what I meant; my first post here was excitement about Starship. I was just trying to be positive, saying that from a certain perspective, almost any DT we get is a good thing. _________________

(Ignoring the first couple of paragraphs because I don't know anywhere near enough about Dream Theater to continue the discussion.)
It doesn't upset me, I just find it completely baffling. I wouldn't buy a song I didn't like listening to, even if the chart was the best thing in the world. Conversely, I will always enjoy playing a song I love listening to, even if the chart is really boring (example: all the New Pornographers DLC). Seems I'm alone on that. But yeah, "SH only cares if stuff is hard" is pretty much what I got from your original post - whether or not that's what you meant, it's unfortunately the fact of how it is around here since all the casual players disappeared. I don't think anyone's worried that HMX aren't putting out enough accessible DLC, but it must be galling for them when nobody seems to care about anything except this sort of stuff.
Anyway. It's probably for the best if I stop getting involved in Rock Band discussions, see you in General Chat. _________________

Ok, I understand where you are coming from. My post was poorly worded. _________________

Eh, not really excited by the Roadrunner pack. Nothing bad, I'm just not excited by any of those three bands. Probably end up passing on these for awhile. |

Ohhhh you better believe I'm gonna bitch about this even more than the Child in Time solo. If these aren't exactly how I envision them I'm gonna be SO MAD.
Maybe not that mad. But I'll sure as hell blame the Opeth drum chart when I fail. _________________

I can already tell the random strums in the "We Built This City" fade-out solo are going to stir up the masses… _________________

Harmonix doesn't author charts to include fade outs. I expect it will be full volume until the instrumentation stops.
Edit: But perhaps that's not what you meant. I don't remember how the strumming is at that part of the song. |

How Do You Sleep? by John Lennon is about the farthest I've ever seen them chart a fade out. |

Come Together by The Beatles in TB:RB had them chart the full fade-out, but that could have something to do with the way the masters were presented to them. _________________

I hope they don't screw up the charting for the songs...seriously if we have the same guy who charted Pulse of the Maggots, Child of Time or the Poison Pack I will not be pleased. _________________

Selkies and I Wanna Rock both had fade outs. _________________

I was being facetious, which doesn't come across well in text. I'm pretty sure Bling was referring to the inevitable charting critiquing of the devil-tiered Roadrunner songs, and very much not the comparatively simplistic Starship song. Just a poorly executed joke. _________________
