I've tried to figure out how RB charts work, but I couldn't really find anything (I'm always on the gh scorehero). So, if I want to contribute to Rock band charting, do I just add drums, and vocals (and bass) charts on my gh chart in dB? _________________

No. You'll have to chart them in a MID Editor.
Bass can be done in dB.

As far as I know, we have yet to figure out audio formats, so no editors are around yet. |

Why can't drums be charted in FeedBack? From the file format it looks like it follows the same note assignments as guitar and bass. Granted, it won't look like the RB drum kit (especially because green is on the right...) but isn't it basically the same thing, and that track could easily be implemented the same way with the Chart2Mid converter?
Vocals, of course, will have to be made in a MIDI editor, though there's no reason a text representation of it couldn't be parsed into a mid file the same way typical .charts are these days, right?
I'm just trying to catch myself up on the RB scene (generally stick to GH) so if I'm wrong let me know. _________________

For drums, I'm doing it pretty simply.
1. I chart it all out in dB; guitar/bass/drums.
2. I then use ghex to make a mid out of it.
3. Then I make a backup of my original .chart, and copy the drum track into the guitar parts.
4. Turn the new drum-guitar chart into a mid with ghex.
5. Open up midi editor, open mid with guitar bass, open mid with drums, copy paste. Voila.
As soon as some relative understanding of vocals is posted down I'll be doing those too... but until then, not happenin'. _________________

When I get home (I'm at work) I'm going to add an option to include the drum track from the .chart in my Chart2Mid converter. I didn't because I don't think GH would like that track if you tried to load it, and I didn't know anything about RB mids yet. So that should save some time for ya.
As far as vocals go, from the MIDI format thread it looks pretty straight-forward - pitch, sustain, lyrics, etc. I don't know how smoothly the can be created from scratch but if FeedBack (or anything) could put a vocal track into text form (kinda like the code area in the midi format thread) it wouldn't be too hard to put in support for that track as well. I don't know what the Vocals track in FeedBack does because it only seems to allow for the 5 usual note pitches, and we need 60, but if an editor pops up, I'll add support for it with the converter. _________________

Once we figure out how to make Talky parts, then we could IN THEORY just make talky parts.
I found out, wouldn't it work if you got a mid SMALLER than the original, filled it's place, and THEN added zeroes to the end?
It would work, right?
Also, I blanked the end event on Ballroom Blitz and the song never ended.
Anyways, Trodgor's full mid (I added drums, no VOCALS YET )
Should replace Run to the Hills, but it doesn't work on DVD5.
Anyways, I'll try this, and add Trogdor, and report here. |

Haha, that's exactly what I was going to do for most of my RB charts. I'm not good with figuring out things. talky parts shouldn't be too hard to put in compared to a full blown accurate vocal chart. Looking forward to your results too. _________________

Judging from the way the game's vocals are made, the first thing in Debr's Mid thread for vocals is MILLISECONDS.
Also, if you add a # by a lyric it becomes non-pitched.
So, I just have to find out WHAT the rest does.

As far as you guys doing all talky parts... doesn't it have some sort of phenome (or phoneme, whatever) detection? That would probably make doing all talking parts harder than just getting a general pitch. _________________

I can't believe no one has found this yet, was gonna wait until playing custom RB songs was possible cause I figured someone else would post it.
KRMaker - A tool to create songs for the original Karaoke Revolution for the xbox.
Why would that be significant for Rock Band? For the uninitiated, Harmonix created Karaoke Revolution and the charting format they used then is virtually unchanged in Rock Band. This will totally work for charting Rock Band Vocals, you will just have to chart the OD phrases in a stand alone midi sequencer (among a few other things).
