Note: if you aren't familiar with MIDItar Hero yet, I recommend reading the thread for the normal version of the program to save yourself some confusion. Thanks.

I've uploaded a new version of MIDItar Hero designed specifically for use with Reaper to author tracks for the Rock Band Network. This will allow you to use your Guitar Hero/Rock Band guitar or drum controller as an input device for placing note gems on your Guitar/Bass/Drum tracks. Note that you cannot record your playing in real time, only in the form of step editing. However, it still beats double-clicking every single time you want to place a note.

The same steps apply for setting up MH (you still need the same controller drivers and LoopBe1), but there are a few extra steps to get it working with Reaper. Included in the download is a Reaper Keymap file with a default set of controls for use with MH Authoring Version.

1. Launch Reaper.
2. In the Preferences, select "MIDI Devices" under Audio.
3. Under "MIDI inputs to make available..." double-click "LoopBe1 Internal MIDI" or "From Max/MSP Runtime".
4. Check "Enable input from this device" and "Enable input for control messages".
5. In the Actions Menu, select "Show Action List", then click "Import/export", then click "Import". Select the MHAV Keymap.
6. Pick the MIDI track you want to edit by double-clicking its region. Go to the Options Menu (or right-click on the "MIDI take: PART ___ tab" at the bottom of the main window) and select "Use All MIDI inputs for step recording".

After that, you should be good to go. Here are the controls included with the MHAV Keymap:

Depending on whether you have Guitar or Drums selected in the MIDItar Hero window:
Guitar - Hold a fret and strum - place MIDI note at cursor
Drums - Hit a pad - place MIDI note at cursor

Strum/D-pad down - move cursor right by grid
Strum/D-pad up - move cursor left by grid
Hold Start + Strum/D-pad down - increase grid size
Hold Start + Strum/D-pad up - decrease grid size
Left - zoom out horizontally
Right - zoom in horizontally

Back - Undo
Hold Start + Back - Redo
Hold Start + Green - Play/Stop
Hold Start + Red - Play/Pause

Buttons still available - Configure these in the Actions List as you like.
Hold Start + Yellow
Hold Start + Blue
Hold Start + Orange
Hold Start + Left
Hold Start + Right

You can find MIDItar Hero Authoring Version (along with the regular version of MIDItar Hero and the Read Me.pdf) here.

Reaper is shareware and has a free 30-day trial... and you can export a MIDI file from that. No need to hack anything.
