Posted: Fri Aug 21, 2009 4:47 pm Post subject: Multitasking Index: List of multitasking artists in RB/DLC |
|
|
A new topic shows up every couple of months or so asking which artists in the Rock Band catalog feature one or more of the band members "multitasking," or sing as well as play an instrument. In addition, some songs feature backing vocals or, on rare occasion, lead vocals from another member of the band who usually only plays an instrument. Just figured we should have a thread to document all that mess.
For reference:
-All Songs refers to all songs available for Rock Band, not all songs by the artist.
-Red indicates that this information is not something I have checked, and I'll need some kind of verification.

Melatonin and Lazy Eye by Silversun Pickups are voxbassed as well.
Backing vocals, that is.
Since they're the same note but a different pitch, they're technically still charted, but..
You know what I mean. >_> _________________

Quote: | Drums + Vocals
Gorillaz - "Clint Eastwood" |
Actually, neither Damon nor Del play drums, considering that in real life, the drums on Clint Eastwood are (apparently) a drum machine. Hard to know for sure though, since a whole host of different people have worked on the Gorillaz.
Also, if we are talking about the actual Gorillaz, as in the cartoon characters, then Russel (the drummer) isn't the one doing the rapping. It's Del, the ghost in his hat, that does.
The only reason that your drummer in game does the rapping is because they couldn't have a ghost appear out of their head (though that would have been awesome). |

Updated -- thanks! I can't believe I forgot that... for the longest time I assumed Nikki was the lead vocalist, until I saw the Lazy Eye music video.

Yeah, I just checked on that a minute ago. I meant to check all of this stuff before I posted it, but I must have let that one slip. Thanks. |

Yeah.. >_>
Brian's voice is kind of.. high pitched.
But awesome.
Nikki probably sings one song in their entire discography by herself. I think.
Edit: Though, I never actually thought it was a girl. S'weird. _________________

I'm pretty sure "Eminence Front" doesn't count. I thought Daltrey did the guitar and Pete did the vocals without any guitar. Could be wrong though.
Also, Mastodon - voxguitar and voxbass (backing vocals) for sure. _________________

Wow! I never knew Daltrey even played guitar -- and I've been a Who fan for some time now. Shame on me. Oh well -- this video from a studio session shows Pete playing as well. It's likely that he recorded the guitar and vocal tracks separately during the initial recording, but in the instance of this thread, that information will mostly be irrelevant -- it's troublesome to track that information down in all instances; also, live performances still require the multitasking factor, so I'll include them regardless.
Updated with Mastodon and Thin Lizzy. Thanks! |

This video shows him doing both (and I think Daltrey is doing some of the guitar as well). _________________

Done. Much appreciated.
By the by, the format's not awful, but it isn't exactly good, either -- does any one have any suggestions? I was thinking...
-Add a "Multi-Instrumentalist" section, for songs where one member of the band played all or most instruments (most N.I.N., Feel the Pain, etc.)
-Change the format to a song-by-song basis rather than a grouped basis that would accommodate more information on the song (for example, rather than Almost Easy being in every list, I could put all that info in one place)
-Following the above suggestion, I could always include a shorthand list like the current one for quick reference
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. |

Um, I just thought I'd throw this out there.
Doesn't Anarchy Club have only 2 members?
So it'd make sense if ONE of these would apply to them. _________________

First off that isn't me XD
2nd of all Funky Monks by RHCP also has backing vocals by John. You might want to add that Sir Psycho Sexy is technically Voxbass and Voxtar because Flea and John both do the high part. |

...what the hell? I don't have any idea what was going through my head when I typed out the quote box. Damn, man... I think I was updating the thread with the stuff from your post on the other thread about the Chili Peppers. But, still... damn.
Second, thanks. I'll update that.
Added all mentioned above -- Anarchy Club is another band that features the rhythm guitarist (Keith) singing lead, but interestingly enough, Adam does most all of the musical work, including guitar solos. I had no idea. Thanks guys! |

Does Metallica (and some other bands, I'm sure) count since the guitar part that James Hetfield plays is almost never the part that you're playing? He does rhythm guitar and I can't think of an instance where you're playing rhythm guitar in a Metallica song, so I'm not so sure if that really counts here. _________________
