I got 1600 microsoft points for xmas (will probably buy more later), and I wanted to buy some songs/song packs for Rock Band. The only problem is, me and my "band" are still working our way through the world tour, and I am worried about buying DLC that will be too difficult if thrown into a random request setlist on hard or expert (I have a solid guitar and bass player, so I'm only concerned about the difficulty of the drum part).

As far as my skill goes, I have been able to do about 20 songs on expert and the only song I have trouble with beating comfortably on hard is Run To Hills. I already know "Blackened" is too hard for me, but what about the other two metallica songs? (<---big Metallica fan here).

I might end up getting more microsoft points and buying almost all of the DLC, so I just want a heads up on which songs to hold off on til I'm a better drummer.

The only DLC I've played on drums that was very difficult was I Fought the Law. You may want to put that one off for a while. The Sabbath pack has certain really tricky bits, but you should be fine if you have a band backing you. The other DLC I have is Buddy Holly, Dirty Little Secret (I had exactly 80 points, shutup >.>), Joker and the Thief, and My Sharona. Those are all not too tough and a couple of them are loads of fun. Enjoy the DLC, it's awesome, and good luck

EDIT: These accounts are all on expert, so I'm not sure how they translate to hard.

One piece of info you could use is djcardshark's project:

http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1718

He has data on all the songs there, including DLC - and that includes the "official game difficulty" for the Drums on each of the songs.

Of course, if Drums are anything like the Guitar or Bass tracks, not all Tier 2 or Tier 3 songs are created equal ... for the most part, the DLC tends to be a step above the 'standard' songs, as it's not afraid to throw more complex stuff at you early on. Still, it's as good a starting point as any.

Still, if you can, it's best to get feedback from Those Who Drum, as opposed to relying on a chart and its numbers.

If you're not at an advanced Expert level yet, then hold off on Move Along. Also, The Kill has some trickiness, though it's not that bad. I can't really compare those to other DLC, as they're the only two songs I've played besides Buddy Holly (which is very easy).

EDIT: Boy, looking through that chart of official game difficulties, those are some weird ratings.

You should be able to do ...And Justice For All with a little practice. There's nothing in that song that jumps out at me as impossible (although plenty of reasonably challenging spots).

Ride the Lightning is harder - you need to be able to keep the bass hits going for the extended "double-bass" eighth notes section in the middle of the song. If you can manage that it should be doable.

Blackened is the end... pretty much sums it up.
