I don't believe anyone will be notified when it happens, you'll just notice it that it changed and will have to take care of it yourself. The second post in this announcement tells you how.

No, it's about 25 pixels too high. _________________

After some discussion, we've decided to update the signature rules.
Essentially, we are now only concerned with two things: signature size and what is not allowed in signatures. Anything is acceptable except for what we have said is not, though we will add to the not allowed list as necessary.
I suggest that everyone go take a look at the new rules.
Since our changes are only expanding (rather than limiting) what is allowed, I see no reason to change the date signatures should be fixed by. |

What's the file size limit on a signature image? I don't recall anyone having a 10 minute gif or anything like that, but a limit would be good to know for future reference. _________________

Thank GOD! I hate having to keep moving my mouse around and up and left and right because someone had a cartoon they thought was funny (although I'd say a good bit of the time it actually was)... you just gotta shrink it down/get a different one.... Besides, people with dial up probably have to wait forever for it to load! _________________

My sig has been reformatted even though it did not exceed 170 pixels. Same with my teammate, Kristen's.
Are mods just eyeballing this or something? I carefully measured and discovered that my current imag along with a one line of text on top of it, along with surrounding space, was 170 pixels exactly.
Unless someone's counting the thickness of the separator black bar in with the sig size, I think someone is being over-zealous here.

If your sig has been reformatted, it was over the limit. We have a script that displays a message if a sig is over the limit and by how many pixels. Sometimes, it's over by just 1 or 2 pixels, so rather than nuke the whole thing we just shrink text down a size, move it next to an image, set a picture side-by-side with another one, etc. I'll sometimes leave a message saying I've reduced it. _________________

No. We use objective measurements that use the browser's measurements to determine how large the signature is.
Techno-babble: If you look at a signature in the DOM, you'll see that each one is contained by a div with the class "forumSignature". Using this + some javascript, we can determine whether a signature is too large.
EDIT:
So people know, I've written a small web app for automatically checking the size of your signature. Details can be found here: http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=88473 |

Can we get the link to the web app in the OP of this topic? Since it is the announcement thread that people would go to for the sig rules, and is also the place that "READ HERE for new signature rules" goes to under profile, it would be more helpful as opposed tp having to go search for it every time one wants to add something new to their sig. _________________

1. Yep, it is. Use this tool to check your signature code against before updating it here.
