Capturing with HDMi can get quite expensive, you can capture using the component cables which is essentially the same using this

http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-1212-Definition-Personal-Recorder/dp/B0018LX0DY

Its probably the cheapest way to record HD footage and alot of people such as Jarr3tt use it.

Another way to do it is to get a HDMI splitter, a HDMI to USB adapter, possibly another HDMI cable, and software that can capture in high definition. I don't remember the cost of all of those components, but it's something to look into.

What if i get this one and a

Alright so here is where i am at now at thinking:

trying to devide this into 3 sections
Xbox -> HDMI splitter -> TV

HDMI Splitter -> HDMItoDVI converter -> DVItoRGB-Cable-converter -> the Hauppauge

Hauppauge -> my-soon-to-be-when-i-get-money-upgraded-computer.

And i'll figure out the bit with the sound soon, i suppose i can use a optical cable from my xbox audio adapter to the hauppauge and dont mess up the sound on my TV right?

You could look in to blackmagic's capture card.

http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/

Records 720p/1080i I believe.
Never tried it, but something I stumbled over when I wanted to find a HD capture device.

Blackmagic can get pretty pricey. I was going to get their Component capture device but found it was mac only atm.

It will be alot easier if you record using your component cable if it at all possible. Its still HD and exactly the same quality as HDMI but you will only need to plug your xbox into the hauppauge then your hauppauge into your TV.

I think with all of those spittlers the quality might be decresed a bit im not sure though.

I don't think it will work.

The reason I don't think it will work is because of what it says in the description on the ADA DVI splitter thing about the DVI port needing to output analog and digital signals simultaneously. Pretty sure the Xbox doesn't do that with the HDMI port and as such there won't be a signal going to the RGB cables because there isn't a digital to analog converter in the setup. It also doesn't address capturing the sound from the HDMI.

And im going to take the sound off the optical port from the xbox audio adapter to the hauppauge
