I don't remember an outright denial of the music maker. it was more "we cannot confirm or deny existence of this at this time".
GJ on the thread though.

"Guitar Hero World Tour" — the fourth iteration of the franchise that started the music-game trend — will be released in October and will feature a "Rock Band"-like assemblage of peripheral instruments for the first time, as well as the ability make instrumental music, a feature Rigopulos said won't be found on "Rock Band 2."

BTW.. from the IGN article:
Quote:
It [the soundtrack] reads like a who's who list of rock music. We have a couple of surprises that we'll be announcing soon regarding this.
Probably meaning... There's a lot of historically IMPORTANT bands in rock history... Like those that have been rumored?... </speculation>
AND... Also from IGN:
Quote:
While I can't rate your list explicitly on "What's on Rock Band 2," I can rate you based on the number of times you mention music from my home country of Australia – which is none. Do you not like Australians? I'm a little offended that you haven't added iconic rock acts like Billy Thorpe, Radio Birdman, INXS, Midnight Oil or Crowded House to your list of songs. I haven't even started on modern bands like Regurgitator, Silverchair, Architecture in Helsinki, The Grates or Wolfmother!
I suggest that you purchase a couple of the "Triple J Hottest 100" CD's and get back to me.
So maybe Aussie music? Moar Wolfmother pl0x. _________________
Well VG247 is reporting that it will release on 360 in Europe on September. But the official press release on the Rock Band Announcements Forum states that this launch window is only for North America. I'm not too sure which one is true yet, but I suppose I'll go with the forum announcement.
Rock Band 2 builds upon its foundation as the first music game to introduce co-operative band gameplay, multiple instruments, a robust online multiplayer experience, an unrivaled offering of downloadable content and raises the bar by delivering an entirely new level of depth, connectivity, authenticity and features including:
- Backwards compatibility with Rock Band downloadable music content. All previously purchased tracks will immediately load into your Rock Band 2 song list. No need to re-purchase or re-download.
- The biggest and most diverse soundtrack ever featuring some of rock’s most prolific acts, comprised entirely of master recordings.
- Major new and dynamic online modes that will connect the entire Rock Band community in more ways than ever before both locally and globally.
- More variety of instrument choices than ever before with new and improved drum and guitar peripherals, enhanced functionality and innovative new designs - all fully compatible with the original Rock Band instruments.
And much more.
"As successful as the original Rock Band continues to be, we've now had the benefit of the last eight months to listen to our fans' requests and to build upon that foundation," said Alex Rigopulos, co-founder and CEO of Harmonix. "Rock Band 2 is a second-generation band game that will elevate the music game experience to the next level." _________________

This caught my attention. Are they gonna make something similar to customs? If so, awesome!
Edit: FUCK YES JUKE BOX MODE!!!!!!!!!!!! Been waiting so long for this...
Edit2: It's awesome to see this game come together with the setlist and now venues. Awesome. I can't wait to watch the E3 demo tonight.
Edit3:

Guess that answers my first question.
Here's a new question: Why no Freezepop or Bowie???
Edit4: Just thought I'd come in here and say, "Man I'm happy I got onto the first page!" And that I think this game's looking awesome. Still disappointed about FP and DB not being on the setlist, but I might manage. I wonder if people are still looking at the first page.... Probably jus people who haven't read the thread yet... So.... HI! To all those people, PM me and tell me Hi back if you see this.... _________________
