Which part?

The yellow ares in the chart itself are areas where you can activate Overdrive.

The song has 28 phrases, and no percussion.

The generic formula for the base score (top score without OD) is 1d+2d+3d+4d(p-3)+125h
p is the number of phrases
h is the number of percussion hits
d is the score you get for each phrase, depending on the difficulty you choose.

I filled in the phrases and the percussion for you, you just need to enter the score for your difficulty.

That way, you know how much above the base score your score is.

I'm sorry, I thought it was much more intuitive than you found it...

I think that he thought it was an optimal OD usage chart, rather than just another integral part in finding the optimal path. It's just a tool, and a pretty damn useful one at that.

o ok. now i think i get it. so basically this isn't like a sp path, it just shows you what your max score could be?

His formula is the top score without OD, wheraes the path itself is an optimal path,

but if you did 125h wouldn't that just come out to 0 after all that hard work? or are you using exponents, because 1d= 200 2d= 400 3d= 600
and then +4+28-3 [p=28] +125h [h=0] you come up with...

200+400 [=600] +600 [=1200] + [28-3+4=] 29 + 125*0 = 0. or should it go 0+125 or h+125 instead of the 125h you stated above? [by the way im probably wrong about this..just checking to see if my math skills are still in shape due to the Christmas vacation ]

Your math is a tad messed up. Yes, 125h in this case is 125 X 0 = 0. But you're doing 4+d-3 rather than 4 X (d-3). Also, I think you aren't following Order Of Operations.

I assume you're playing on easy. That's the dificulty multiplier you were stating, so I'll work it through with that.

Base formula:
1d+2d+3d+4(p-3)+125h

[I just realized that my copied formula from my second post is lacking a difficulty multiplier on 4(p-3). I'll fix the post and change it below]

Correct base formula:
1d+2d+3d+4d(p-3)+125h

Fill in variables:
1(200)+2(200)+3(200)+4(200)(28-3)+125(0)
Do math in parenthesis:
1(200)+2(200)+3(200)+4(200)(25)+125(0)
Multiplication:
200+400+600+20000+0
Addition:
21200

So the base score for the song is 21200. If you got anything different, check your math. Then check mine. I can make mistakes.

Iplayguitarhero2 you scare me.

Its just algebra and substitution of variables. If you do that and remember how to do order of operations, then you'll get the answer. About as easy as math gets hahaha...

Edit: Original content of post preserved for posterity.

At this time, exploiting this glitch is frowned upon by most of the vocalists on these fora. Abuse it at your own peril.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's a glitch on the very last phrase that lets you get more than 8000 points if you have overdrive during it. I don't know the exact details, but it seems to work only if overdrive runs out in the middle of the phrase. If you have OD through the whole phrase, you only get 8000.

My current path, taking advantage of this, is:

2/immediate, don't squeeze
3/next opportunity, squeeze
3/immediate, squeeze like you've never squeezed before

I think that was approximately what I did on my what was 1st place run, which happened to be just random OD usage lol. only thing I did was the last activation didn't get to much into the last phrase, if at all...

NO WONDER! Since the 142k run by batsmak was posted, I've been trying to chart out how he got it, but to no avail. I came up with the same path, but I guess I didn't squeeze the last activation enough and gave up on the path. Thanks!
