Received my Omega today and first off let me say thank you for using a quality pedal. When most people think of drums they think of pearl and for good reason, they know what they are doing. As far as the pedal itself goes it falls nicely into the upper mid half of the quality spectrum. It's no DW5000+, Iron Cobra, or Eliminator but it's more than up to the job of our Fisher Price drumming. Ok now onto the modification. They had a great idea taking the beater position from some electronic drum pedals and having it contact on the pedals mounting bracket. The foam they use isn't as reflexive as a bass drum head but its a damn good run for a practice pad's bounce. The fact that they kept the beater plant's this pedal high up on the "realistic drumming experience" chart as constant bass sections are no longer annoying as the momentum of the beater almost makes the pedal play itself. Also the feedback of the beater hitting the pedal resonates through the entire kit delivering a nice accenting thump to make connecting to the music even better. The mounting bracket idea was great, its adjustable to around 15 degrees of the crossbars so you can make the pedal match your posture and uses the standard mounting method to hold the bracket itself. Now as many of you worried, I know I did, the trigger mechanism is as good as it gets. No annoying magnets or requirements of rubber stoppers, just a nice and simple snap switch. I was worried of a physical trigger but after researching the average snap switch is rated at atleast 5000 cycles, may not seem like much but from what I can gather they would repair a broken down switch for a fair price or if you are like me you're gonna pay the dollar for the part and do it yourself. The switch is mounted with hot glue and what is either haggard electrical tape or hockey tape but its securely in place. If you are worried about double hits don't be, the cam that trips the snap doesn't roll back and forth across it it grazes it, if you are drumming properly you won't need to worry about the beater bouncing causing double hits but if you do have a problem the pedal is fully adjustable, yay quality pedals!
Just to get a second opinion as I'm a generally new drummer I invited a few friends over who are experienced drummers, one 9 years behind the set, the others on and off for about 4 years, and the general feeling is that its not the full experience of a real drum kit, but rather spot on for a professional electric kit. All of them praise the new pedal since they are all used to DW's and Iron Cobras the standard pedal felt alien and limited them from playing as they would on their kits and the Omega gladly steps in to correct that.
Enough of me praising this pedal and seeming like some yuppy. Unless some new pedal comes out with an even more durable trigger, (and not a fucking magnet), or uses this system on an even better pedal, (Cough someone start using DW5000+'s), I'll be sticking with and recommending this pedal to everyone interested in replacing that stock POS. Not to mention the fact that having a real bass pedal has allowed me to increase my scores by rather generous amount .
Alright people, keep them drums a clackin'. _________________

You're still gonna have a mild "swinging motion" based on the other components.
Also my pedal was shipped via Fedex and took 2 days to arrive from when I received the confirmation email. |
Sounds good then, Ive gotten used to playing without the swinging motion on the crappy stock pedal, and going back would be a hassle, even though I play real drums. This game feels more natural without it I think |
