If you're playing for score, play slow scales.

To get the maximum possible points, all you have to do is hit each note (Green - Red - Yellow - Blue - Orange) once every second and a half. As long as none of the columns "change color" on you, you're fine.

The reason for this is every time you hit a note in a column, the score for that column drops to zero and recharges. After a second and a half it's at maximum (150 points) and changes color to let you know "hit this column, you're wasting points if you don't."

It doesn't matter if you hit fifty notes or 500 notes in your BRE. As long as you play each column every 1.5 seconds, your score will be exactly the same. The solo buttons are useless other than 'style points.'

the solo buttons are amazing during the BRE's, I just move my hand up and down the buttons because you don't have to strum. You should try using the Strat, you get used to it pretty quickly.

Yes, but from a score perspective they don't help at all. They're good for the "feeling" of rocking out, but if you're playing competitively against someone else, you won't lose a single point in a BRE by playing with a different guitar.

And I give props to Harmonix for how they designed it - they could have easily forced people to use the Stratocaster by giving it an advantage in BRE.

Regardless, http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3238 is the sticky devoted to conversation about the BRE and Guitar Solo scoring, so we don't really need another full-fledged thread on it.
