Practice mode question

So, I just recently got Rock Band for PS2... I've been playing GH2 and 3 for a really long time. On my sightread through expert, i got all but like 4 gold stars (I know they're easier on ps2 but meh) and a bunch of sightread FC's... now I'm trying to go back and FC more but every time I go into practice mode I can only do full speed or slow, and if I pick full speed, I can't select a section. Is there something I'm not doing that unlocks being able to select anything between 10 and 100% speed like I've seen in many videos??

I figured it might be the tutorials so I did all of them, and I still can't do it. Is it just stupid for the PS2, or did I not do something? Thanks.

Wow, there is no way that adding an option to select sections for the PS2 could have taken that much extra time and effort. The no character creation, no store, etc, all that is just extra bells and whistles that I would expect to be left out. But stripping down the practice mode? That's absurd.
