So I'm total n00b when it comes to video capturing my Rock Band performances. I've been using the onboard camera on my Mac and just recording that way, but.....ya.... -.-

So I need your help.
I'll tell you my set-up:
Macbook Pro
Xbox 360 - Hooked up via Component Cables to and HD-only TV (no standard jacks)
My sound is running through a surround system, as well

If you can't figure out anything for my mac, one of my friends that I always jam with has a windows laptop, but I would prefer to know a solution for mac. thanks

You need a capture card. You would plug the composite cables into it and then from there into your laptop. Some suggestions... easycap, dazzle, gamebridge. Try Amazon.com.

Do NOT use Easycap for capturing game fottage if you can afford/find a gamebridge or Dazzle.

I bought one cause it was cheap....not realizing that it was such a pain to set up, and the quality sucks too.

640x480 resolution.

I HIGHLY reccommend NOT geting an easycap.

Depending on money I would go with a dazzle (not the silver one though) because you can stream it has pretty good quality and they aren't to expensive although if you can afford it try to get a HD recorder instead it will help out in the long run

My only problem is that I don't have composite cables to use, I need a capture card/mechanism that can handle COMPONENT cables. Links/suggestions?

Then you would need to buy something that can record in HD

the most widly used that I know of is the Hauppauge HD DVR.

kinda expensive though.

its just fine, and its not limited to 640x480.
it goes to 7 something, and the quality is just fine.
Especially for $8 bucks.

EDIT:
it isn't compatible with Mac.

I have a cheap roxio thing (for pc) but it lags so much I need to split the video and play it on the tv while recording on the computer

I do this by:

I have a cable from gamestop that takes in whichever's plugged in: xbox, wii, or playstation

if I set it up right it outputs both component and composite video
I hook up the composite video and the speaker out put from the tv to the roxio and record on comp while playing on tv

this works perfectly on the PS2. On wii it records fine, but the tv display is black and white

I haven't tried xbox
