I have the exact same problem. Here are your options:

1.) Buy a laptop and cap card (at least $500+)

2.) Use an external camera (probably $200ish?)

3.) I have been able to record using my dvd recorder, however, it causes severe lag when I play. Unless you can cope with the bad lag, this really is a pain to get to work.

If someone has a way to record yt vids when you can't reach your pc, please say.

How do capture cards work? I have a laptop and a HDTV, would I be able to record in HD with a capture card?

Yes.

From my knowledge, dazzle capture cards cost about $80 plus a fancy editing software so you can make epic split screen videos. Easy cap, on the other hand, is about $20.

Only if you dished out $250 for a HD PVR.

I saw this one device in Best Buy

It looks to me like it's basically a hard drive to record your videos onto, then just plug it into your computer via USB and transfer, much the same like a digital camera. I think its upwards of about $100, and you will also have to purchase the necessary splitters and A/V cables to go along with it.

Not a hard drive, it uses an SD card. Amazon has them listed for $94, but they're currently out of stock. Some decent web searching should turn up a few other sites that are selling them cheaper than that.

there is an easy solution for this called a pinnacle video transfer. its $120 and worth every penny. It records the video onto a usb stick. get a 4gb stick and you are good to go. check out the quality on my youtube page. www.youtube.com/user/cubbyblue911

I'm currently running Windows 7 (64-bit) on my desktop and I'm worried that the Easycap won't work. (You can think of it as Vista 64-bit for the purposes of compatibility)

I got the DC 60 and it doesn't work on my laptop (which runs XP). Which was a great shame. I get a crazy error and a blue screen everytime I try to use it.

As the DC 60 is not compatible with Vista, I was looking into buying the DC60+ (the one you posted) as people were saying that it's compatible with Vista. But upon closer inspection, the item descriptioin says the following:
"*NOT COMPATIBLE WITH VISTA 64*"

Before I start wasting even more money, can anyone suggest something of a price range similar to the Easycap that works on Vista/7 64-bit?
