HINT: For paths which must be done without BNS, and BNS is preferred, the towel trick can be very useful.

"Miss Paths"
§§§How They Work: Optimal paths of songs are calculated based off of getting an FC of a song. They do not take into account the scenario of OD usage§§§
with an overhit during an OD phrase in the song. This overhit "deactivates" that phrase and takes away 1,425 points under a 4x multiplier. BUT! If the altered path can compensate for the lost points and the lost phrase... then it will give a new optimal score.
The term "miss" can refer to an actual overhit or the "deactivation" of an OD phrase which begins at the first note of a song. The latter is still considered an FC since your combo is never broken.

"Double Squeeze-Out" Paths
§§§How They Work: These paths involve at least one double squeeze-out. A DSO is when you abuse the timing window enough so§§§
that you squeeze out a note that occurs before the end of the appropriate measure. (Example: You have half a bar of OD and you squeeze out a note that is 3 15/16 measures after your activation).

For a visual example of what a DSO is, click here
WARNING: DSO paths are extremely difficult to pull off. Some paths are questionable as to whether or not they are actually possible.

"Calibrated Paths"
§§§How They Work: Depending on the scrolling speed of a note chart, a drum fill needs a specific amount of time after the last OD note of a phrase before§§§
it can appear. By going to the audio calibration settings and adjusting the lag, you can "control" if a fill appears or not, thus, sometimes allowing for a better path.
*Thanks to eXcelon969 for this method!*
HINT: Due to the huge audio offset required for most of these paths, it may be easier to play these songs without sound.
Video calibration has no effect on these paths!!
WARNING: Late Hits marked with a "!" on either side indicates that the execution will be extremely difficult, if possible. These require a 0.100 - 0.135 second late hit or a 0.085 - 0.100 second early hit. As of now, the latest documented hit is 0.135 seconds (by gladiators16).

"Improved Kawigi Paths"
§§§How They Work: These types of paths do not involve any misses, DSOs, or special calibration settings. They are paths which give optimal scores§§§
higher than Kawigi's website due to his restricted algorithm. All of these involve an early hit in the range that the game engine allows, but which surpasses Kawigi's .04 second early hit limit or his .1 second late hit limit.

*Due to some songs having different optimal scores (from Kawigi's site) depending on what scroll speed is being used, these paths eliminate this difference.

Cool -

If you're willing to expand the scope of the post a little bit, I was intending on updating the "list of songs with different optimals on BNS or non-BNS" list...we could copy all that over here and make it the "Weird Drum Optimal Info" thread

Is that really necessary? That info is already covered on Kawigi's site.

I'm not sure you get what I mean. The information is available on Kawigi's site, yes, but isn't presented in any list or such thing. You'll see when I update it.

I know what you mean, I just think it's redundant since if you're using Kawigi's tool you just click BNS and regular, look at the optimal score, and if the numbers are different you go with the higher one.

I was under the impression that this meant you would look for "miss" paths on songs that have different optimals for both BNS and non-BNS and seeing if the same one (or a different one) exists for both modes.

No, I meant that it is nice to have a list of all songs that have differing optimals on BNS/non-BNS (and possibly Score Duel as well), since that way people can just target those, since I reckon people don't click on non-BNS and BNS on every song they do. If you don't want to store that info here that's fine, I just thought it'd make sense to have a one stop shop for such things.

On an unrelated note, does Mr. Grieves have a miss path?? I did Kawigi's path, got what it said optimal is...and find a bunch of people have out scored me (making my "optimal!" comment look very foolish)

Ok... the Mr. Grieves thing is very interesting. I had to do some research

Kawigi's site gives the optimal path for sure... if you're not counting the glitched path as an option.

The correct path is actually:

1/OY
-1/OG

I don't know exactly how it works or how you get it to show up, but there is an invisible fill that can show up starting at measure 46. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZxmjVs8vb0

There is actually a "miss" path for this song that beats Kawigi's optimal, but it doesn't beat the glitched optimal (and the "miss" path actually involves the glitch so it's pointless anyway).

The idea of this seems very odd, but hell it works lol.

The BYOB one seems risky because the blast beats always screw you over.

Ok...

Mr. Grieves used to have an invisible fill giving a better score. Unfortunately it has been patched on 360 and PS3 so it's not possible to get that score anymore. You might be able to do it if you deleted your game data and played it offline, but thats a lot of trouble to go through.

Doesn't Foreplay/Long time also have a miss path that gives a higher score?

Ok thanks for explaining that. I was looking at that chart for it though... and was wondering if anyone knows how early someone can actually successfully hit a note (in seconds)?

http://rockband.scorehero.com/images/notecharts/contrib/ajanata/drums/mrgrieves_drums_expert_blank.png

There is .729 seconds in between the OD phrase at measure 45 and the fill at measure 46. So if it's possible to hit a note .071 seconds early, that should give the fill enough time to appear in BNS. Has anyone ever tried this?

EDIT: And for whoever tests it out, make sure you're using a TV without any calibration settings, meaning everything is set to 0. If it's not, then your chances will be even less likely of it working.

And for the FP/LT "miss" path, do you know if that was a RB1 or RB2 thing? I'm honestly not seeing one for RB2.

This is definitely possible. To USE BNS and make a fill .729 show. should be pretty easy.

FP/LT miss path was a glitch in RB1, not in RB2 anymore.

Hmm... you sure they fixed that glitch? Bc I just gave it a try, and even though the fill itself didn't show up, the glitch happened.
