I think it's a great idea to stop if a lot of poeple are retaining. I know that I was retaining in the leagues that I joined, and those were years ago. If it's gotten worse since then, then I can definitely see where you are coming from.
There is a small amount of people who are very serious about competition, and they can organize their competitions on their own. Doing more leagues would be a waste of time (that is, until competitions become more frequent again). _________________

You are using the term backwards. To "retain" someone is to keep them. A "retention rate" would refer to how many people are staying throughout. Although arguably it's a bit strange to use the term to refer to people quitting DURING a league, and would seem more appropriate to use to refer to people who don't return for the next season of a league.
