ha i thought about it the other night.

you take the foot petal and put it over to the side so your friend plays it while you only have to wory about the pads...try it and see (plus it gives a fifth player something to do, lol.)

kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it?
Even easier would be to have 5 people play drums...each of you gets one drum head.

...sadly, I can see many people cheating and having a seperate person do the bass just to get higher scores on the ladder....and there really is no way to stop them.

That's actually really really hard when it's anything other than steady beats. Bass drum parts in marching percussion are usually split between several drums with a player on each drum, and you'd be surprised how difficult the timing can be when all of your notes are isolated to random locations in the beat.

Although at the drum corps level there are definitely plenty of bassline that are disgustingly good at doing just that:

That's like playing an FPS using an aimbot to do all of your shooting. What's the point of playing if you....aren't playing?

Yeah the kick is hard, but it is a giant chunk of what makes up the drum gameplay.

Well, once you realize the rhythms and the beats, it's not so bad. I played Bass 1 in Marching band (the little one) and had some pretty complicated rhythms. It's all about counting and lots of practice. Though, marching to the beat helps a lot, it's an internal counter to help you realize when to hit the drum.....much like playing a drumset with two peddles doing straight beats.
